I've noticed there seems to be quite a few cars for sale that have CVT gearboxes. I dare not call them CVT transmissions in case the tautology police are active.

While CVT's do have fuel economy benefits, I am wondering about their durability. The transmission oil is critical, expensive and service intervals must be adhered to. In addition, replacement is a major hit to the wallet.

Anyone have experience with a CVT? What are your thoughts on performance and longevity?
