Has the Internet Ruined the Thailand Experience

No, it was a observation through the eyes of those tourists.  I live up North, farming Pigs and making bacon, hams, sausages is my Thailand experience.  I could live anywhere in Thailand or elsewhere, but i prefer rural life, simple life.

So the internet has not ruined your Thailand experience.  Good on you.  But there are a couple of ways to look at this.  If one lives in Thailand, meeting girls has never been easier...largely because of the internet.  But that whole bargirl bar scene, perhaps it's outlived its usefulness...largely because of the internet.  As for the tourists who have not figured this out...what's there to say.  If these bars have to shut down because they can't find enough girls who want that life, that's a good thing.

Might also be that the feminists are winning and us blokes can no longer expect a Thai Handshake just for walking into a bar.    The spinners in that beer bar you were in weighed it up and, shock horror, chose their telephones over this lot.  ?

"Oy! Cum 'ear luv, touch me ballz and put on da' football!"

It’s the same the world over - the traditional bars ( brothels in Thailand ) where if you were a bit horny and wished to meet up with a like minded person are closing down .

Many punters have woken up to the fact that you pay more for a drink in a seedy bar in Bangkok than a swish 5* hotel - it’s greed .

So a few clicks and ( hopefully ) some gorgeous young lady , hunky young man, lady boy etc will arrive shortly.

Quite refreshing that many have commented negatively on the OP’s idea of a Thai experience- there is really no positive side to prostitution.

No, I order in on Thai Friendly when I would like company.

And does that always work out well?

Not according to my much younger brothers !

I get what the op is on about - and those younger bros are the ones who appear to feel the same.

Theyre the ones telling me that when they came over to visit 10 years ago  , how much fun we all  had compared to the bars ( or whats left of them ) .

Of course now , 10 years later , I have a 'steady' tg , so the bar Sois  are something I leave to them .

They go out as Im getting ready for bed.

But they are adamant that the cell phone is the bar girls entire focus today .

Like in the op , they love to get herded in by the party girls , but observe that most of the girls then retreat to their spots and start organizing 'work' for AFTER  work.

And that you'd be better off using LINE to order your next round ! 555

When they list all the Sois off Bangla that have  gone  while they were back home saving for a similiar early retirement  ... the raucous Soi Lion .. Soi 'Cocodile' ( sic) with its  thumping music and primping LBs , Soi Easy and its respite from the heat and crazy Soi Gonzo  ,  plus Soi Don Tang , Soi Sea Pearl , and Soi Tan and Soi Deewana .... well something changed all that ..

I suspect it was the cell phone to.

Doesnt sound to me like the op is saying anything pro or con for today compared  to what it was like 'back in the day' .

Just observing that the cell phone has made 'things'  quite different...

It works extremely well for me. I now save a packet on bar fines & LD’s. No extras like taxi bike, lets go eat, attempt and new clothing or just plain hump quickly and run. Not to mention the ridiculous 2-3K and up initial ‘quotes’.

Thaifriendly, Tinder, Bumble, Happn and do on 1K to your door and if you’re on your game quality is on par and at times much better than the gogos.

Included in my experience was the 300thb oil massage than turned into a wild hump, still 300thb. And the girl that stated she ‘just wanted to be friends’.

That’s fine, I’m happy to hang with anyone. Out drinking at a Thai bar for the cost of a few Leos, said my goodbyes and left. Next day rocks up at my condo and now a regular freebie when she’s not busy with a ‘customer. Works for me.

If I understand the OP correctly, he's saying that the "Thailand experience" is largely about the bargirl bar scene.  While I disagree with that premise, I will say that he's probably right about the slow demise of that industry.  Some are saddened by that, others celebrate it.  I'd say I'm in the latter camp.

Well, I have sure noticed the numbers of monks on their cell phones when I do the temples.

Love the Internet, but it's "ruined" alot of things. At the same time making many things better, faster, cheaper and more convenient....but certainly NOT the bar/girl scene in Thailand. That...it totally ruined in every way.☹️

If you were 75, a widower, not excited about chatting up a widow at the bingo parlor, don't want to remarry, and still appreciate beauty. I'd say you could see the positive side, as would the happy young lady setting the price. Also many arguments support the occupation in many countries. Freedom of choice and all that.

Sex workers in Thailand have very positive lives of wealth  freedom, independence, choices of both long-term and short term partners and relationships, the opportunity to have a non village experience.etc. It's a life of liberation for most of them. Anybody who thinks differently has no experience but is just judging based on homebound hypocritical moral values. Not reality.  Sex workers in Thailand generate enormous wealth and economic and social benefits. The term prostitute is only used by damaged hurt people to make them feel better about themselves.

Absolutely.  A good response to know nothing, right wing evangelicals and or rabid feminists.

I find it easier and cheaper to sit in an air conditioned hotel room and fire up a pickup app and get home delivery, but i understand the bar and gogo scene has it's place and sad to hear its on the decline

Im a hedonist! Pencil dicked, but not puritanical! The new wave of sex tourism!

That makes me want to go down to Soi 11 with a miniburkha on (and nothing else) and seeing if there is any rough trade! Maybe I can find a lissome Thai wench to smear Nam Pla over me while warbling Khmer incantations! Where is the GoGo with the naughty boy corner?. Screw this culture trip Im on its time to have fun!
