Tablet stolen from Bangkok turns up in Maha Sarakham after a year

A Bangkok woman who lost her tablet after a break in from her car in Laksi last October never gave up seeing her property again.

The signal was lost for a long while but eventually there was a log-in and she discovered the location was in Maha Sarakham in Thailand's north-east.

She decided to drive there with her boyfriend on Saturday.

She sought the assistance of the Borabue police who led her to a warehouse where they kept items bought for resale and scrap.

Her tablet was recovered.

Siriluk Wiriyasukdanun thanked the local cops for coming out on a Sunday - something she doubted would have happened in Bangkok.

how very matter of fact 555, I bet she still had to pay them

I must be so fortunate to never see that side of Thailand. Driving or riding every day to and from place of business, to and from restaurants in the city on weekends or week nights for years, traveled over a great portion of the kingdom for short and long vacations and never once have I needed to hand over money to the BiB. I once paid a fine for not wearing a helmet on Samui in 2003 or so and received a signed receipt for the on the spot fine.

I'm not sure why I avoid all the issues a lot of others have. Any thoughts? This is a genuine question. I just never see that sort of goings on that people on TV regularly talk about.

Within a few weeks of moving to Thailand my moto was stolen from home. Reported to police. My Mrs offered a reward for recovery on Facebook. Police found my bike and demanded the reward money saying they had to lay out cash to get it back for me. Mrs was not surprised.

That is unfortunate to hear. I'm not doubting things like that happen based the amount of people who mention it. I guess I am just lucky.

Firstly, I am happy that you have never encountered this phenomenon in Thailand....But having lived here for the best part of 25 years I can definitely  say that I have been a victim of, or witnessed, every sort of scam the BIB can invent........But I still love living here....I think it is a question of priorities.....and learning to deal with differences......

I’ve only had to pay once myself and I was in the wrong and that was a good 20 years ago at least. Never had any issues but I do know if you need the bib to do something for you they normally want paying for it

If only you had studied statistic you would understand. All the times in my life women with faces that I don't like all come at me like flies. Those that I like don't give me a shit. I often wonder why. Would understanding statistic helps in my case I wonder.

Please expand then. Are you suggesting that the views of those here who respond about "tea money" and bribery are a fair cross section of the the Thailand population or even a fair cross section of ex pats? Have you considered variables such as age, profession, socio economic situations, the confirmation bias?

I have not studied statistics more than I have needed to to achieve my work credentials. I could always be better informed. But I would suggest you maybe read my post again and think a little more laterally and attempt to read between the lines.

I'd like to hear your thoughts, statistically speaking, on 'tea money' and bribery.

Oh yes my thoughts on 'tea money' and bribery. Nobody ever asked me about that before so I never gave it a thought. I must say to be honest I just couldn't answer that question.

So let's forget about this statistic problem.

My thoughts come from the outside. A thought enters my brain. The speed of my thought will indicated my mental health. If I can watch my thought without interfering or without judgement and it slows down the speed, I will improve my bipolar situation. This last part of my comment is just to say you are talking to a person who recovered from bipolar problems.
