Alcohol but not a real problem
Mid July 2024 finished radiotherapy (Thai govt hospital) for throat cancer, tumour gone but throat a bit of a mess. I asked the ENT doc last week as not had a drink for about a year if a beer would be OK now. Absolutely not was the response, a very, very small wine would be OK but not beer. As I keep reading that alcohol is alcohol whatever form it is in I was too surprised to query it. My throat is still not happy with more than fiddling sips of any liquid. I wasn't thinking of an 8 pint session, just don't like siting in a bar with water or coffee. I have since had a few cans of Heineken 0.0% which went down alright but not everywhere keeps it. Any comments about alcohol in wine ok but not beer. -

I wrote a response but somehow I've lost it, so start again: Hi Nifty, looks like you're doing OK, best of luck. Following are some points that I learned from my own OAP application and approval. - Contrary to what some folks believe; OAP applications are NOT processed by local CLink offices, and applicants cannot request that their local CLink office and / or a specific CLink officer process their OAP application. - All OAP applications go, electronically, to the CLink HO computer in Canberra and are processed by computer. A very large % of the applications are 100% processed by computer. Where there is any confusion to the application questions the application automatically goes to a CLink officer in Canberra. That officer promptly takes whatever action is needed to resolves the situation and get a clear answer and this goes into the Clink processing computer. Automatic computer processing resumes, until all questions have a clear answer and a decision is made by the computer. My understanding is that for every OAP application, the processing data and the computer decision goes to a senior CLink officer to confirm / dispute the decision of the computer. All confirmed the OAP applicant is quickly advised of the decision by phone and letter and the next steps proceed to quickly lodge any back payment into the bank account of the applicant (back paid to the date the OAP application was lodged). And the applicant is advised full details of future payments*and the date of the first full payment into the applicant's bank account (the 2 weekly payment cycle). (* this will of course change every 6 months because of cost of living adjustments. NOTE: OA Pensioners living abroad using their portability* entitlement receive the full OAP supplement amount . (* Portability means - can receive their full pension and supplement amount paid automatically into a savings account abroad by 4 weekly <2 fortnights> international bank transfer. This is for life, doesn't need any further contact with CLink. The pensioners savings bank account in Thailand (any country) can be a joint savings account <Mine is self and Thai adult son, either party can sign. CLink don't want any details about who can sign etc.), just tell CLink the bank name, bank address (suburb only), account name (joint names) and account number.) To get this started ask CLink for the international transfer banking document. They will send this to your e.mail address. Take this form to your Thai savings bank with your passport and your bank book and if it's a joint savings account take the other person with ID. Taking the other joint account owner to the Thai bank is NOT a CLink requirement, some Thai banks use this process, some don't. Your Thai bank will complete the form (takes about 1 minute), a senior bank officer then signs and stamps the document. The document should include the landline number of the bank, NOT the mobile phone number of a bank officer. CLink will give you an e.mail address of a Services Australia banking department for you to return the completed banking form. On receipt of your email Service Australia will then call you and slowly / carefully confirm that the bank account number is correct and tell you a date to expect your first 4 weekly payment. NOTE: For every deposit into my K Bank savings joint account I very quickly receive 2 advices from K Bank: a. An SMS from K Bank with basic details including the amount of Thai Baht just deposited to my joint savings account. b. An Email from K bank with same expanded details. From the information in the email I can see that the money just received has been deposited in Australia for International transfer perhaps 3 or 4 hours before it's in my K bank account.
