Husband Fatally Stabs Wife in Jealous Rage Before Attempting Suicide
In an incident fuelled by jealousy, a man allegedly stabbed his wife to death before turning the knife on himself in an attempted suicide. The attack occurred early in the morning on November 14 at a plant shop in Ban Nong Waeng Yao, Nong Wua So District, Udon Thani Province. Police were alerted to the scene around 06:30 Pol. Lt. Suphattra Boonruang from Nong Wua So Police Station, along with forensic experts, medical personnel, and rescue volunteers, responded to the distress call. Upon arrival, they found the body of Ms. Wilai Phorn, 40, lying behind the shop with multiple stab wounds to her stomach, chest, and arms. Holding her body was her husband, Mr. Lam, 45, who was critically injured, having stabbed himself in the stomach and slit his throat. He was taken to Nong Wua So Hospital in severe condition. Ms. Wilai's 19-year-old daughter, Ms. Sukanya, recounted the events leading up to the tragedy. She heard her mother's cries for help and rushed out to find her stepfather attacking her mother. She tried to wrestle the knife away but was overpowered. As her mother lay bleeding, she rushed to find help and called the police. Upon returning, she found her mother unresponsive and her stepfather embracing her lifeless body, saying, "We will go together," before attempting to take his own life. Family members and close sources report that jealousy had been a recurring issue. According to Ms. Sukanya, her stepfather had grown suspicious of her mother, fearing she was involved with another man due to her frequent trips back to her hometown in Loei Province. However, these visits were to see her daughter and support family matters. Ms. Sukanya confirmed that her mother and stepfather frequently argued, and he had previously assaulted her mother out of jealousy. Ms. Wilai's mother, Mrs. Wan, 60, confirmed this history, adding that her daughter had recently been caring for her ill brother at a hospital, which required several nights away. This, she believes, exacerbated her son-in-law's suspicions. Mrs. Wan recalled her son-in-law's recent social media post hinting at possible trouble ahead, which left her with a sense of dread. The police have collected forensic evidence and Mr. Lam, currently receiving medical treatment at Udon Thani Central Hospital, will be questioned by authorities once he stabilises.
