Doesn't one need utility bills to verify a UK address? If no I could maybe try an old UK address again when I contact them.

You need utility bills I tried that.

I was on phone to NW earlier and they now have a more sensible new system to prove your address in Thailand. They courier a form to sign to your Thai address and just need to return it. No need for any notary of address now. Must also notary ID/passport however.
