Oral OTC decongestants in Thailand

Featured Replies

I understand that Pseudoephedrine is a controlled substance.

So my question is, what other oral decongestants are available in Thailand and would be carried at Boots or a local pharmacy.  I'd appreciate if I could get brand names or the name of a generic decongestant that is legal and OTC.

Phenylephrine is in tesco, its not as strong as pseudo ephedrine but its passable

You can easily get phenylephrine OTC, major cold remedy brands like Tiffy switched to it when the law re pseudophedrine was changed. But it does not work at all well in my experience. Personally I now use nasal drops containing oxymetazoline instead when I have congestion. Their effectivess is increased if you administer them lying down with your head hanging off side of the bed.

Thanks Sheryl.  I generally use 'child-strength' oxymetazoline that I put in an atomizer and spray the smallest amount that I can and still be effective. It works well and gets me though the night comfortably.  The trouble being the length of time I've used it due to allergies.  My body has adapted and I have rebound.  Literally the get stuffy just before bed which is exactly when I use it.  It's allergies or rebound or both.  So I want to ditch the oxymetazoline long enough to stop the rebound effect. I used a product containing phenylephine last night and it was pretty much useless.  I've talked to my doctor at the Amphur hospital but their pharmacy doesn't carry it.
