Hi all,

For starters, I am aware that driving a Thai-registered car in Vietnam has never been a cakewalk, and that until recently, it seemed downright impossible.

However, about a few months ago, I was driving to the Chong Chom / O'Smach border checkpoint on my way to Cambodia when I saw a group of 4-5 sports cars with Vietnamese licence plates, they were driving towards Surin and so I assume they had no problems crossing into Thailand (granted, Chong Chom / O'Smach is a very small border post), so, if a bunch of Vietnamese cars managed to cross into Thailand, what about the other way around? Has anyone heard anything about recent policy changes as far as entering Vietnam is concerned?

If not, does anyone know of any specific travel agency that would process my documents with the VN dlt to allow such crossing?

Driving to Vietnam from Thailand has always been a goal of mine, but unlike Laos and Cambodia, it has always been off-limits, however, given the fact that VN vehicles have entered Thailand rather easily, I'm wondering if there has been any change.

Any help by knowledgeable people would be appreciated.

Thank you.
