Alongkorn Pollabutr, a potential contender to challenge the leadership of Abhisit Vejjajiva, said this morning that the Democrat Party is at a cross-roads and needs to initiate a major transformation in order to stay politically meaningful.

Declaring that he said he has the vision and the intention to lead the country’s oldest political party into a new era, Alongkorn said he sees income inequality and corruption as being among the country’s biggest problems.

Speaking ahead of the party’s general assembly today, Alongkorn said he intends to vie for the party’s leadership because he wants to bring about changes.   “When I left the party to join the reform council I was serious about washing my hands of politics. But as I see the political trend today I am worried about the direction the country is going,” he said when asked for reasons why he is returning to politics.

I presume he means climb straight into bed with the military and Prayut aligned party at the 1st chance he gets?

What complete and utter clap trap, what a snake.

He might be a snake but he has a point about 2 of the problems facing this country.

So even snakes can be right.. not that I would trust the guy.. but I agree with what he is saying. I would not vote for him given his track record. (not that i can vote .. but if I could i would not vote for any of the old parties as they have shown their corruption / incompetence.. let them first prove themselves. Talk is cheap.

Yeah wow he pointed out inequality and corruption., ground breaking, no aspiring politician has ever had a thought like that or made a soundbite like that. He has been in the Dem Party for how long, as Deputy leader at some points, was in the reform council, why does he not show us what he has done in the decades he has been involved to take steps to resolve those issues, or has he just thought of them?

Even so.. he is right in what he said.. can you tell me how much the PTP has done ?.. big silence...

Face it they all know about the problems but don't solve them or want to solve them.

Not sure if you read the rest of my post but I am of the same opinion as you.. its election time they wil say anything. But that does not make it untrue what they say.. They are all great at identifying the problems during election time.. but none of them has done anything meaningful. Once in power they will be looking out for themselves.. just like any other who is in power here.

Sounds familiar. And like the other one, it's all about loving Thailand and serving the people?????

He once had the opportunity of contending for the leadership of the Democrats. He was bright, personable and had plenty of interesting ideas about moving the country forward.

Then for reasons which remain unclear he disgraced himself and sullied his name for ever by joining the forces which have damaged the country and its liberties.

Nothing he can say or do can redeem his reputation. No more glad confident morning.

That's a fair point but it doesn't excuse his subsequent behaviour.

Any politician that bend backwards to work for the junta betray democracy and in his case, betray the people who voted for him. I thought he was different in the beginning when he talk about party reform following election failures. Now I see him as another hypocrite and a plant by the junta to try take control of the party.
