They are just taking people off the street because it's picture time.

I also don't agree with, "well if you haven't done anything wrong, it doesn't affect you" logic.

It's been that opposite actually. The scum in the pic front and center have had a good run over the years. Time to boot them OUT!

One would be naive to assume that they have been operating without the complicity of the Police.

So like, we all know what happens at Nana, but the Police, especially the ones occasionally stationed there, no no, they don't know what's going on.

Valid for every other area under Police monthly "protection".

Only western ppl make a big deal out of racism. The east and most parts of the world consider it as normal behavior to protect the culture, language and race of a country, many countries (which are the majority) are not multi-cultural. If you don't like racism, perhaps Thailand isn't the place for you.

Seems you've never travelled with a Thai to a country where some people express racist sentiment towards Asians. Thai's do not like racism when aimed at them, one assumes same applies to you. Or do you smile and  think to yourself - good to meet another racist.

Some people on here are saying it is racial profiling but if they bothered to go back over the TVF threads over just the last month alone it would show that it has nothing to do with any particular race. There has been well over 1000 arrested in the last couple of weeks of many different races including Canadian, American, Brits and of course the many asians from Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. So this is not a racial issue like some are claiming it is. It is a clean up of illegals in Thailand in preparation for the February election

I was thinking the same thing the other day, So many of the old pensioners here on the forum were all for the clampdown on people staying here long term on tourist visas and was very obvious they did not want/like digital nomads or young people staying here long term. Now the shoe is on the other foot and they are not happy with all the changes and clampdowns on them. The rest of us are sitting back and enjoying the "Karma".

I suppose we can give them the same advice they gave us back then, Pay up for the elite visa or back to your home country you go lol.

You don't have to pay up for the Elite Visa to be happy and secure here and I have never had a problem with Immigration here but it is good to see the clampdown on those that are illegal here

What makes you think that people staying long on tourist visas are being affected, where did you come up with that?

I am staying long on tourist visas and that's not what concerns me, they can bl#w me as far as I am concerned since I am not on overstay.

It's the vibe of a nanny state I am having a problem with, along with racial profiling, this coming from one of the most corrupted institutions, Royal Thai Police, and a non democratic administration.

It comes from the whole government and population in general, not just the Thai police.  Every department of government is corrupt, even the schools and universities.  The populace has to deal with a patronage system where you pay those above you to get out of trouble or solve a problem.  Thai people hate Indians.

I see the police lately always harassing the drug dealers in my soi. Flashlight [emoji363] out going over passports.
Doesn't look like they are being protected to me

And i see some other things.

Various schools under the protection scheme know in advance about raids.

I see Police stopping on some highways or main roads, taking selfies of themselves and driving away, to have proof they are doing their job.

In your example, I feel it may also be a face exercise, and then everything goes back to "normal". Even out of those arrested, many are released, once picture time is over.

But that's just my impression.

Agree. The guys from EU, USA etc who are on overstay are more likely to be living quietly somewhere low profile and not in their 20's/30's hanging around in groups in public view.

...2m tripods sort of stick out in the crowd.

But because the accompanying photo showed a couple of Africans, some people were quick to jump on the "racism" bandwagon and decide that all of the people detained were black and only detained because of their skin colour.

You want to see the true face of a racist ?

Look in a mirror.

Operation BLACK EAGLE:

“In this raid on colored people, we found some people who had overstayed their visas,” Tourist Police Deputy Commissioner Maj. Gen. Surachet Hakpal said. “We searched restaurants, bars, party spots and eateries around Nana and Soi Cowboy. In so doing, we have secured a safer place for tourists and ensured their trust.”

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Since 8th October there has been 6 raids including this one and not all the raids netted "blacks", in fact only 2 raids netted any "blacks"

All these reports were released on ThaiVisa

Monday 8th = 22 Africans + 1 Myanmar,  8 of the Africans paperwork correct and released

Wednesday 10th = 57 Pakistani's

Thursday 11th = 100 Africans, no arrests as paperwork was in order

Thursday 11th = 97 arrests = Indian, Loation, Cambodian and Vietnamese = 27 overstay and 43 illegal + 13 Thai's for failing to notify address of alien

Friday 12th  = 5 Burmese, 5 Indians and 1 Russian

Friday 12th = It does not say how many Africans were arrested in this raid.

If you look at the figures you will see that nowhere is there anything that points to these raids being racial because there is too big a mix of nationalities for it to be just about Africans.

They are only after illegals that are from any country and you can search back through the ThaiVisa reports and you will find many more reports of arrests of foreigners who were here illegally and it is a big mix of nationalities so there is no racial discrimination here

https://littleindia.com/117-foreign-nationals-including-indians-arrested-in-bangkok-in-ongoing-nationwide-crackdown/

"Hakpal said that the searches concentrated on “colored” people who arrived in Thailand to execute different kinds of crimes like romance scams, call center scams, prostitution, human trafficking and drug trafficking. Hakpal, who was leading the raids, repeated his order for a nationwide hunt for “illegal” foreigners, changing the name of the operation from “Operation Black Eagles” to “X-Ray Outlaw Foreigner,” according to the report."

Cos BLACK didn't sound too good.
