Khon Kaen man with mental disorder found hanging in police detention room

Police say a man with a mental disorder was found hanged on Tuesday morning just 20 minutes after police put him inside a detention cell to calm down after he stabbed himself and attacked his relatives at home.
 

Pol Col Sarayut Champhiew, commander of the Chum Pae police station, said Prasart Sutthi-on, 51, used his shirt to hang himself from a bar in the detention cell.

His sister, Prayad Sutthi-on, 54, called police after Prasat allegedly attacked his relatives at their house early in the morning before inflicting shallow cuts to his own body.

Police say Prasart was put behind bars to clam down, but when they checked on him 20 minutes later, he was dead.

Sarayut said he was sorry over the death but claimed it was an unexpected act. He said he has ordered an investigation of his subordinates related to the death.

Prayad said her brother had diabetes and had a mental disorder and had often complained that he wanted to die.
