More cocaine has been discovered in Patong while more heroine has been seized in a major crackdown on ‘hard’ drugs. Police and authorities say they are concerned about the rise in drug seizures and the amounts flowing around Phuket’s seaside party town.

Phuket Vice Governor Supot Rodrueang Na Nong Khai says, “Nowadays drugs price have decreased, especially the cost of methamphetamine pills, because the production has been increased and the supply is exceeding demand.”

“Many suspects have been arrested and drugs have been seized but the smuggling continues.”

Hmmm, I wonder what the "certain community" is the Vice gov mentions?

Sure a small fish community or "show" community.

Would he name the big fish community he would float tomorrow 10 miles of Phuket or hang hisself at a Palm tree.

It's a open secret who controls coca in Patong since many many years and even the Bibs will not touch them.

PHUKET: Cocaine and heroin use is on the rise among specific groups of people in Patong according to newly appointed Phuket Vice Governor Supoj Rotreuang Na Nongkhai, who is also President of Phuket Provincial Drug Information Surveillance.

However, the chief of the Patong Police has played down V/Gov Sopoj’s claim saying there is no cocaine epidemic in the area.

V/Gov Supoj’s revelation came during a drug suppression meeting held at Phuket Provincial Hall yesterday (Oct 18) with Chief of the Defence Division of the Phuket Provincial Office Siripong Leeprasit and related officials also in attendance.

Heroin and cocaine are popular among drug addicts. Is that specific enough?

obviously true...How many years have the govt's been "fighting" drugs?...since the 60's?...I certainly don't see any decline in their availability and that's been for 50 years...more prevalent than ever...waste of govt money

Now, when governments like the Thai government finally understand that the "War on Drugs" is unwinnable, then perhaps they can legalize marijuana and kratom, decriminalize the rest, then divert funds to regulate (and tax of course) the now legal substance, invest in educational programs, and medical programs for addicts.  If they insist on still 'fighting the war' they should concentrate solely on the supplies and mules.  Busting end-users who are otherwise good citizens simply makes a large segment of your population into criminals.  Thailand should look at Portugal's model.

"Now, when governments like the Thai government" - Thailand has a "government????"

When was the election?  I must have missed it. ????

The drug problem here (and elsewhere) is way worse than the authorities of respective places think or are ready to admit, and to be frank, it's a problem that can't really be solved with harsh jail terms and arresting end users. Taking drugs is a personal choice, admittedly a bad one, but you can only educate people to the negatives of doing it. If people want to do something like this, then it's hard to stop them and they have to accept the results of their actions. The problem comes when they need medical care and there are many opinions out there on both sides of the fence on this one.

For thai to grow and develop, they have to depend on parents, guardians and people around them for food, shelter, medical care and all other requirements. In traditional societies, the wisdom passed on to children was to enable them stay alive, fit into their society and continue to live like the adults whom they found in the community. The wisdom was passed in packages of noms and rules such as; how to talk to adults, how to behave in a manner expected of one’s gender, or generally, how to live acceptably in society.

PS. I think I know how it is coming into the country...…………..it is stuffed into the footballs that these black girls carry in the back of their knickers. Surely those rear appendages have to be false, looking at the size of them??

All the yaba etc. comes from Burma...specifically the parts controlled by the Wa State Army which, in theory, has sweet FA to do with the Burmese government or army. The Thais know where the factories are and could take them out if they really wanted to...but it's the old arrangement of we let most through but you have to accept a 15% loss and people arrested so that Thai security forces can take credit for trying to do something about it. When you read an article of 10 million pills being caught then you can be sure 5-10 times that has just got through with money changing hands. If the Thais really wanted to nail the drug trade then all it would take is a bunch of well places air strikes on the factories they know about and the trade would be curtailed for months, if not years. Not as if the Wa State Army will attack Thailand over it and good luck with that. They are all in it together, including the Tatmadaw.
