Two Chinese men were caught “red-handed” while apparently stealing from a donation box at a much-respected temple in Bangkok’s Prawet district on Monday.

The suspects were arrested by police immediately after they had allegedly taken Bt890 from a donation box inside the Chao Pho Sua Shrine of Wat Krathoom Sua Pla at 10am.

The two were identified as Mu Yoping, 37, and Chen Xaojung, 39.

Officers from Prawet police station staked out at the spot after an official of the temple filed a complaint that donations from boxes inside the shrine appeared to have been stolen, as there was less money than normal in them even though a large number of Chinese tourists had visited the temple.

Police saw the two suspects arrive and one of them lowered a short flat piece of metal, which was wrapped with adhesive tape and tied to a rope, into a donation box and pulled it out with banknotes and coins attached to it.

The officers then came out of hiding and arrested them.

The two said they had travelled from Shanghai and were staying in the Yaowaraj area, from where they had taken a taxi to visit the temple.

They said their friends had told them that the temple was sacred and that by visiting it their wishes would come true.

They refused to say whether they had stolen from a donation box of a “sacred temple”, police said.

1 class quality tourist

when we hear the truth about how much Chinese tourist stealing from hotel's, restaurants, etc

Because they really have bad behavior about stealing

Threaten them with 10 years behind bars, the same as the 'painter' in CM.

The Thai's could easily get away with cutting the hands off these criminal masterminds and the pair of numskulls in CM and then simply explain that someone misunderstood the orders and as a result they have been reassigned to an inactive post.

To be honest, when you see a box of money it is rather tempting, like that feeling you get standing at the edge of a cliff, but most of us don't jump. Ha!

Well....don't call it a donation box, then.

Please....do not charge them !!....I mean they are the sacred Chinese "quality" tourists, the new V.I.P's of Thailand.

Put that article in the Chinese newspapers !!!

Ministry of Sucking Up to China has apologized to China and is considering outlawing temple donation boxes as they entrap decent Chinese tourists.

????OMG wait until this story reaches China the tourist numbers from China will be down by a million visitors

China might jail them two again when they returned to China.

It is the image thing.

The Chinese are trying to muscle in on the temple donation box market. Multiple videos have been posted here on TV of farang temple thieves. Those who had cornered the market are upset. Remember, competition breeds innovation. ????

Nothing will happen to them

There will be a remark in their passport and it will show up when their IO sees them on their return. Foreigners caught with prostitutes in china will have their passport stamped ‘procurement of prostitute’ at the end page.

Like any other tourist, China should educate their people that stealing is a crime,

whether they steal in China or abroad.  Shame on these two, who hopefully are

deported to China after their time spent in the Thai jail and court system.

Geezer

hope to see operation X Ray Chinese in Thailand!

but they are usually getting a slap on the wrist and that is it!

Please, at least give them a chance to explain that although they were the sort of "high quality" tourists that Thailand needs and deserves, they were without funds and only performed their act so they could redonate the money and not lose face before their friends.
