BANGKOK, 26 October 2018 (NNT) - Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has given awards to provincial administrations that have been successful in their waste management policies.

Gen Prayut gave awards to this year’s winners in recognition of their success in implementing state guidelines to separate and sort waste; establish an effective waste collection and transportation system; and utilize appropriate disposal methods.

The premier commended the 15 provinces that received the awards as role models for clean communities, affirming that waste disposal is high on the national agenda.

After the ceremony, Gen Prayut visited an exhibition on provincial waste management taking place at Government House.

Would be nice to know which provinces are awarded, so that I can move to one.

Are they called "The Carpet Awards" for hiding unwanted stuff?

No surprise here…Uncle has long been an enthusiastic advocate of all things trash and shows a rare flair for the finer nuances of waste management.

Large provinces included Lopburi, mid-sized provinces included Loei and small-sized provinces included Lamphun.  The rest was not named in the  original NNT news bulletin.

Didnt Pattaya make it to the top?

More awards for doing your job correctly ????

Where I reside will certainly not get any rewards such as this judging by the amount of Commercial waste ( yes it is commercial waste stuff ) that is dumped in the Countryside and then fired by the recycle wallers for any small amounts of metal Etc.

Don't know which progressive-like Prayut to admire.

The well dress suited civilian businessman with a big smile advancing Thailand forward - for the people.

Or...

The smartly dressed and decorated military Field Marshall with a big smile advancing Thailand forward - for the people.

????

now he just needs to chase the ones who didn't succeed in " implementing state guidelines to separate and sort waste; establish an effective waste collection and transportation system; and utilize appropriate disposal methods. "

Is that why every official in Thailand looks like Christmas tree?

A medal for every recycled can?

Maybe he could do something about all the plastic that gets dumped into the sea.

Waste management at Government House? Pulling the plug on the entire cabinet looks good to me.

????

Or maybe his pink silk 'Pretender' version is truest to type . . . 'Advancing Prayuth forward - for Prayuth.'

And the winner of the National Award for waste disposal goes to Koh Samui for having an inoperable incinerator for the last 9 years.

It has been reported 300,000 tonnes of garbage has accumulated around the incinerator and is about three stories high. Also reported that the municipality has sought financial help from the government but none has been forthcoming.

Award ceremonies are much cheaper than practical solutions and give great opportunity for political grandstanding in the election build up.

You would need a functional police force for that.

I'll rephrase that:- Pulling the chain, I meant, of course.

Could be, awards are given by this government for many reasons other than what the title would suggest :).
