Bangkok ‘gigolo' held for Line sex ads

By The Nation

A Bangkok man was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly advertising his sexual services to women via the Line messaging app.

Police arrested Seksan Ruangsaen, 40, on charges of prostitution and violating the Computer Crime Act.

He was arrested in a sting operation at 8pm at a rented room on Soi Sakae Ngam in Bangkok's Bang Khunthian district. An undercover policewoman contacted him at 11:30am on Tuesday to engage his services for Bt2,000 and officers arrested him in the room.

Police planned the arrest after Seksan advertised his services via the app by saying he was a "not handsome but exciting” and offering special oil massages for women.

I seem to recall that many people were skeptical and fearful about the introduction of the Computer Crime Act (2007) and thought it could be easily abused by the police (and others).

IIRC, the politicians who enacted this legislation gave many assurances that it was to be used for only the most serious crimes, especially those which affected national security.

Yet here we now see it being used in the prosecution of a petty and completely victimless "crime" - not to mention being used as a threat to keep quiet anyone who has an opinion at variance to the current government.

What had making a Social Services Ad to do with the current government?

You really think another "elected" government would do different?

Like in any other country in the world where more and more of the freedom of the internet is slowly hemmed in by new laws brought to us als security?

Wake up!

Oh Dear !!...unbelievable ?!!!....prostitution in sacred Thailand ?!!!!!.....jail the chap on the spot...!

its not thathe was asking women to pay for sex that got him arrested.  it's that he was advertising it openly for all to see... this is why so many thai women can use wechat and line and many other social media to get customers.. they hook you thinking they are free and then chat you to ask for payment.. or worse still, wait till you meet before commenting on how poor they are and if you are with them for short time you need to help them out financially.
