Can anyone tell me if transferring UK nationality to a 4year old born in Thailand, with Thai mother and UK father(married at time of birth) is a right ?After phoning the UK embassy in Bangkok I was told I would have to come in and be interviewed.I was previously under the impression that it was just a formality.Would my living away from the UK for 2years allow them to question my rights as a UK national?.

If you are British "otherwise than by descent" and, as the child was born before 1.7.06, you were lawfully married at the time of the child's birth, the child will automatically be British without the need for a domicile interview. However, you still need to provide various documents which demonstrate the child's entitlement. All the relevant information is contained on the embassy website.
