Policeman in apparent suicide in front of Korat 7-Eleven

By The Nation

A police senior sergeant major shot himself to death in front of a 7-Eleven store in Nakhon Ratchasima’s Sikhio district early on Tuesday.

The shop owner, Sarayuth Nakharoengrit, 51, called the district police station at 3am to report the death.

Pol Senior Sgt-Major Cherdchai Khantakhu, 49, an officer from the police station, died while seated on a marble bench in front of the shop, with his head down on the ground.

His 9mm pistol was found nearby.

Sarayuth said Cherdchai had dropped by the store to chat with him after his shift, just like he always did.

Cherdchai had displayed no sign of being suicidal and had talked and laughed normally, the 7-Eleven owner added.

After chatting for an hour, Cherdchai said he wanted to leave, so Sarayuth got up from the bench, said goodbye, turned away from him and walked back into the convenience store.

He then heard a gunshot and turned around to see that his friend had died.

Depression, job pressure, and access to a handgun. I am sure there is more to the story.  RIP
