New U.S. Medicare Cards

Featured Replies

Medicare is issuing new cards with new numbers that replace the Social Security numbers now being used. At some point next year you'll have to use the new numbers.

Has anyone yet received the new card? A few months ago I called and asked about the schedule for mailing the cards overseas, but didn't get much of an answer.

Yes, we've been through this over and again here. At a minimum, U.S. retirees overseas should enroll in free Part A Medicare when they reach 65. Whether to pay for Part B depends on your particular circumstances, but many -- myself included -- do.

In any event, if you want to rehash whether to enrol in Medicare when overseas, please do it on another thread. Let's limit this to the card issue.

The cards are being mailed by State and when your state comes up you will get it.  They look the same, only change is a mix of numbers and letters

Got my new one in September in Washington State

Yes, and if you have a U.S. mailing address they'll tell you when it's being mailed. But if you have a non-U.S. mailing address, they come up blank when you ask when they're going out. Hence the question here to those with non-U.S. mailing addresses.
