Please do not underestimate the depth of my ignorance!

I have been watching a Youtube DIY video about making photography background using "polyboard," a synthetic building material. The problem is it is not exactly clear what this material is.  I learned is is also called "polyester board."  But is that the same as "foam board" and is that the same as styrofoam board? It is clearly not gypsum.  Any idea what this stuff is, what they call it in Thailand, and if they have it at Homepro or the other big box stores?
