Key NOT turn in Ignition

&

2_

Steering NOT turn

Ref.

My 1st-ever 4-Wheeled Motorised Vehicle

viz.

Pickup_Diesel_Manual_Ford Ranger_XLT_Turbo_2.4 Litre_4-Door_Year of Manuf. ; 1999

Note ;

Not North America Version of Ford Ranger

Rather,- it is the "International" Version of Ford Ranger

Manufactured in Thailand

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I bought this Pickup as used vehicle with some 165,000 km on Odometer.

I am 2nd owner
Regrettably,- I no longer have Service Log

..................................................................................

By the way, despite often researching ad nauseam the internet,- I cannot locate for free Workshop Manual nor Owner's Manual for this particular Ford Ranger XLT.

The most likely Manual within Free Manual Download "Sticky [ perhaps 8-) ]" of this Sub-Forum is for the North American Market version ;

Thus, not applicable to mine.

I think that I best buy applicable Hayne's Workshop Manual from Amazon hence

................................................................................................

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Most recent History ;

Vehicle, itself, was idle for the last 5 months or so.

Ignition did start successfully a number of times during the 1st 3 months of that 5 months.

Unfortunately,- I refrained from attempting to so since until last week.

Last week, I tried to start the ignition ;

But,- it would not turn the engine.

I decided that Battery [ Lead + Acid "Wet" Type ] was now too weak to do so.

I moved the vehicle to alternative parking space by pushing it whilst Assistant controlled Steering & Brake Pedal.

This task was successfully accomplished in a series of many moves.

Perhaps ... Assistant may have contributed to "locked" Steering Problem ?

..............................................................................................................

Having removed the Battery, & subsequently collecting it from professional Battery-Re-charging Service,- I noticed, just ahead of fitting it to Pickup, that the Electrolyte was almost to the brim of the Filling Holes of each Cell.

Then, I tilted out the Electrolyte until Level of Electrolyte within recommended Range indicated on Battery Casing.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Having fitted the Battery :

1_

Key will not turn whatsoever in Ignition ;

Despite trying both of the only Keys for it

&

2_

Steering will not turn whatsoever

BUT – BUT – BUT

3_

Lights will turn on upon selecting functions ;

OTHERWISE,- Dash does not light up upon Key :

3_1

just being inserted into Ignition

AND

3_2

not being turned.

Thanking you in advance for all your kind helpful relevant replies.

Regards,

Put the key in the ignition and turn the steering wheel to the left and right slightly while turning your key.

It sounds like you have locked the steering.

Check the other key if you have  a spare as well.

I already performed :

that which NE1 suggested

that which Patriot 1066 suggested

.............................................................................

However, to no avail would they work.

But, I welcome nonetheless these suggestions because they are helping to narrow down matters down to the possible cause.
