A couple were arrested in Udon Thani’s Mueang district on Sunday night with methamphetamine pills that turned out to be fakes.

Udon Thani deputy governor Pramote Thanyapuet said on Monday that the couple had been nabbed while walking in a suspicious manner in front of a community mall.

Officials searched them and found what looked like meth pills in their possession.

Jirawat Khonchaiyaphum, 25, and Jidapha Khunjorn, 20, later tested positive to drug use.

The two then testified that they had made the fake meth pills from paracetamol to sell for Bt150 each, in order to earn money for buying real meth for themselves, police said.

The couple have been charged with drug abuse, but escaped drug-trafficking charges, police added.
