Deja Vu from the waters south-west of Phuket this afternoon.

Last week it was reported that the sunken vessel Phoenix would be raised to the surface before last Sunday. But the crane for the new salvage operations didn’t arrive until yesterday. But now, with the barge and new crane in full operation off Koh Hei, confident predictions are again being made.

The acting Immigration Bureau Maj-Gen Surachate Hakparn has again confirmed that Phoenix will be raised within five days.

Looking at the link, and the pics of their equipment, I feel confident they will succeed where the fools with the rusty old barge and oil drums failed.

PHUKET: The new operators called in to salvage the sunken tour boat Phoenix are confident that their team will raise the disaster-struck boat to the surface tomorrow morning (Nov 15).

Revealing the confident prediction to The Phuket News and about 60 other representatives from the media from Bangkok and Phuket at the Phuket Deep Sea Port at Cape Panwa at 10am today (Nov 14) was Tanapat Hemanggon of Seacrest Marine Co Ltd.**

“Today, the weather is good and there is no rain,” Mr Tanapat said.

Got to love all the officials wearing flotation devices but none of the press bother.

Great pointing in the OP photo someone looked to actually taking notice and following the point.

That is one BIG MOTHER CRANE. I know very, very little about raising sunken boats but I thought the method was to fill it with massive air balloons to displace the water in it and give it buoyancy.

Comments welcome !

Hi neeray the problem with lift bags on larger vessels is vessels aren’t designed to be supported by their deck and cabin if you stuffed that thing full of enough bags it would most likely lift the deck right off the hull it’s ok with smaller lighter vessels also it’s very hard to control the assent they tend to accelerate as the pressure decreases and the air in the bag expands its waaay better to cradle it and pick with a crane less dive time more control get her done!!!safely

They seem to have a crane capable of the job now.
