Went with a buddy of mine this morning to the Big C down the road from the Harbor mall to get an S & P dday coffee since it is by one get one free and have a chat. We sit down and start having a coffee and my friend plugs in his labtop to catch up on some emails. Suddenly the staff storms out and starts yelling at him about using the electricity and how much it costs them and proceeds to put tape over the outlet. My friend replied to them that we are paying customers and not using barely any electricity just for a small computer. Then the lady yells at him in front of everyone that he is a liar. At that point we told her she would never again see our business and picked up and left.

Is this what the "Land of Smiles" has become? What miserable people that you can't even go to a coffee shop and sit down as a paying customers without getting yelled at and called a liar for just plugging in a labtop to check emails.

Actally, before I use somebody else electricity, I ask that person - paying customer or not - and so far, I have always been granted the use...

That said, yelling at you / your friend and accusing him of lying is definitely not the way to do and not something I have ever seen happening and it should be reported to the store manager.

I believe that was the store manager. The staff served us and then the manager came back yelling. My friend said he is a weekly customer and has a routine. He goes once a week and drinks his coffee and checks his computer for an hour or two. Every coffee shop in Thailand has plugs to use and it is common to see young people working on their computers. However the foreigners get singled out as bad guys for using a satang of electricity?

Perhaps your friend was a regular user of their electric outlets?

He is a regular, what does that matter? He is a regular paying customer. He goes there once a week to have a cup of coffee and check his emails for an hour or so. Is that a crime? How much does using an 11" macbook air use in an hour? There is no justification for this at all. Especially calling the guy a liar.

So your friend goes to have a cup of coffee with a friend, and finds that a good time to start and check his emails.

Some friend.

On top of that, is it really so much trouble to make sure the laptop is charged if you know you're going to use it outside?

What a worthless comment.

A realistic comment reflecting the times we live in.

If they have big issues with that they should turn off the outlets...i won't stop at Amazon anymore from now on...
