bendejo, just an FYI, we have annual sock hop at bannork's place.  He provides all the beer so you don't have to BYO.  tutsi provides the gals so you can leave your wife at home.  I'm the DJ.  Keep July 20th open on yer calendar.  Andrew's a bit younger . . . too young, so he's not allowed to drink beer or fondle the gals.  He can smoke, though.

Gene Vincent's Be-Bop A Lula from '57.

Do you have to bring your own socks ??

Andrew’s not allowed to drink beer or fondle the gals !!

I’m over 18 !! , what’s the problem !! [emoji51]

Well, I'm glad I stumbled across this thread!  Better late than never....

A little trivia: I knew this gal in NYC back then who was a groupie.  She was gorgeous.  And a sweet person.  Told me that Traffic was originally a love quadrangle, and Mason couldn't handle it.  It then became a triangle.  I have the impression "Every Mother's Son" is about that.

I found out not long ago that Steve Miller was the godson of Les Paul.

I learned just yesterday that Joan Baez had a 75th birthday concert and the album is available, haven't looked into it yet.

tip: sorry to break the rules

Ahh, no problem about the "rules," bendejo.  I break 'em often enough.  You get spanked for it but she doesn't hit you hard.  And she makes up for it with a kiss when it's all over.

Those were the old days, Andrew.  Drinking age has been raised to 61 these days.  I won't rat on ya . though.

Well I’m definitely underage ( [emoji51]) if that’s the case !!

Another from Little Feat ( 1977 ).

Great lineup on this one .

Must mention that a lot of these bands never made it across the pond, like Small Faces.  Some I'd never heard of.  Floyd didn't get much attention until they became "head" music (like King Crimson). Deep Purple, this list is before their re-emergence with Smoke on the Water.

Saw The Nice as opening act for 10 Years After in '68, blew me away!  They never made it in the US either.

A world away from it's original form (actually it started with a stage play).  Rita Moreno is about 300 years old now and still looks good.

The Small Faces never had much impact in the States but they did score very big with this one in '68 . . . (loved this tune when it came out) . . .

Same with Deep Purple.  And like the Small Faces they also had a huge hit stateside with this one . . . (also loved it when it was released) . . .

My sister had bought Nice's Five Bridges when it appeared in '70.  But yeah, no one I knew at the time had ever heard of them.  I didn't get into them too much.  What I really wanted was hard rock, something I could damage my ears with.

There are certainly a number of bands on that list that I'd never heard of (but have since discovered).  Bakerloo only put out a single disc in '69.

One of the reasons I love this thread is that similarly aged guys, like bannork, Andrew (too young to drink), and a few others turn me on to music from that era which I had never heard before.  Which gets me to digging around YT to find even more.

Here's a UK band, Arzachel, which also put out only a single record.  This tune, Queen St. Gang, reminds me very much of Kieth Emerson.  Some of their material is Pink Floydesque, and quite good in my humble opinion.

Just joking, Wilson.  We like to make and have fun on these threads as we post great music.  jap.gif&key=de4f613599fcc1d7ce319d62164351e405c60742433f1e4bbfd0bbcf451cf72f

Hey I know the music I post is crap. I was just bored I guess, fiddling around with youtube. No we all know who posts the best tunes. Bannork and Digital Banana. Those guys are TVF's resident Dj's. I'd never cramp their style.

5555 very good Tippers. I'm learning new language every day - sock hop- sounds like we're all about 15. Speaking of which, i'm not sure you've quite got this age thing right. I believe you referred to us collectively as fossils but this is ignoring the laws of time that apply when one is in Thailand. The fact is once you step onto Thai soil you cease to age. This can be physical or mental or both, and is commonly attributed to various factors such as the balmy weather, nature in full bloom the whole year, the wonderful women, somtam, morlam, the convenience of life, cheap labour, ignoring all bye- laws etc.

Plus who can get old with the wonderful music we put up.

BTW, have you seen this guy's videos? He analyzes guitarists from the 50s. He's very perceptive, being a guitar tutor himself for 15 years, and what he says about how the players of the 50s, 60s and 70s had to learn their craft from listening, no Youtube, and had to gig and learn how to interact with audiences for years makes for interesting listening. Plus no one in the audience had a phone, and what with music, along with TV, pretty well being the sole medium, concerts were very important. He's got a whole series out.

bannork??  Prolificacy does not equate to good taste.  Well, except in bannork's case.  Still, I have 29,426 followers compared to bannork's 25,961 followers.

Always loved this one by Little Feat

Love the 2 drummers deal, one of my favourite bands at the moment is Tedeschi Trucks and they use 2 drummers, gives a great beat in my opinion.

Another great band using 2 drummers was of course the Glitter Band ! , maybe we shouldn’t go there.

Here’s one from Tedeschi Trucks !!

( not strictly from the era of the topic, but the song is [emoji51])

No way would I have picked up either of those chicks in a disco, balo.  I might even question the gender of the one in the bottom.  Debatable, ain't it?  Definitely not my thing, LOL.

The only disco music I could bear would be the Bee Gees.  But hey, they had a wealth of talent.

No sock hops in the UK?  Sock hops were high school dances with live local bands in the school's gymnasium.  By the late 60's they had pretty much faded out.  So yeah, a teenie thing.  And you do have a valid point about the strange distortion of the law of time here.  When I was 48 I would never give an answer to a Thai asking how old I was.  I'd throw the question back and ask them how old they thought I was.  Average answer amongst both Thai male and female was 35.  Made me understand how older chicks feel when their age is guessed much lower than actual.  You're only as old as the women you feel.  I'll always be around 25.

And thanks for the vid.  Very interesting.  I'll be checking out more.  God, I wish I could dissect music like that.  Get's so tiresome to only be able to say, Great guitar!! without being able to say why.

Anyhoo, here’s him dissecting Koss on Free’s Mr Big

Are you Thai?

Working on it.  I'm deeply tanned, I've dyed my blonde hair black, shaved all of my body hair, but have yet to find a plastic surgeon who can slant my eyes, remove my nose bridge, and raise my cheekbones.  Other than that I also still have to work on getting rid of my gutteral German accent, or at least softening it somewhat.  So, at this point I'd say about 50% Thai.

Seriously, though, what characteristic(s) have I shown that might suggest I'm Thai?  I'm curious.  I'd guarantee that if you were to meet me in the flesh you'd swear I was an American.  Been an expat since I was 2 years old.  So long now that I don't think of myself as a member of any particular nationality but simply as another earthling who belongs equally anywhere in the world.  LOL  Technically, and officially, I'm this:

Absolutely hilarious . . . when I played this on YT the initial image was replaced by this, requiring my approval before I was allowed to proceed:

Vat ze fick????  Doesn't come up when I play the U.S. or British national anthems.  Must report this to Angela immediately . . .
