Thai and Chinese words.

Featured Replies

Greetings all, I recently went to work in China and noticed that the Chinese word for horse is exactly the same as the Thai word for horse, that being ma of course.

It's the only word I have found that they share in common, I wondered whether anyone else had come across words in Thai that exist in Chinese also.

thanks

There are many words that are the same or very similar between Thai and Cantonese e.g. the numbers 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10.

All numbers higher than one are Chinese loanwords

Many terms of advanced technology like horse, cow, chair, shop, money...

Google "Chinese loanwords in Thai"
