December 8, 20187 yr Popular Post Several residents appear to be in contact with local authorities via FB etc. I therefore have a couple of observations that we all dread each Christmas that you may like to fire in their direction: - Traffic Lights: They have been off all year and work reasonably well in 'flashing/give way to the right' mode. Turning them back on again at the busiest time of year spectacularly backfires, not least because their timing causes jams instead of reducing them therefore how about leaving them as they are this year? - Privately owned cars: The Island in general and the ring road in particular is too small for the volume of traffic that descends here for Xmas & NY. To me it would make sence to have a 'resident vehicles only' restriction (for private vehicles boarding the ferries) between say 15 Dec and 05 Jan which might enable the islands infrastructure to cope. I of course realize that this is pie-in-the-sky & that there isn't any reliable public alternative for foot passengers but the next month or so are likely to be a nightmare which could quite easily be avoided with a little thought. No flames please, especially if you don't live here or still have an axe that needs sharpening! ????

Actually, the traffic moves better through intersections after the traffic lights was turned off, or set to flashing mode. To be honest, I was also irritated in the beginning, but realized that I was wrong...???? The jam-problem at the Bo Phut area of the Ring Road is due to several road works, evening market at the Wharf, and the many resorts with ongoing traffic in-and-out. Agree in, that the upcoming peak season includes too much crowd. I hope tourism will be kept down, and thank our Bangkok Air-friends for their continuing high price-policy to limit inflows of mass-tourism...????
