People tell me that we've been crying out for much too long, now it's time to dance to a different song, but seriously:

One syllable or two?

Should "Fire" be sung as one syllable as in "Fields of..." or two, as in "Martin"?

It looks like I've lost another hero.  Fire is Fire.  There's no 'ah' in fire.

I was going to link Bananarama, but it seems I am ploughing a lonely furrow here.

Inspector Clouseau would be an expert on the subject of 'Fire'

and on 'bomb's too

Feuhr and beumb are clearly both one-syllable words, and anyone that thinks otherwise is a b'ffoon

I've always had an answer.  I was looking for support.

But, like Ian Smith, sometimes you have to go on your own when you know you are right.

an old paramour pronounced beer as bee-yur 'I have a problem with you drinking bee-yur all the time, tutsi...' she grew up in Philadelphia...

another pal from California pronounced cruel as crew-ell 'you are lamentably crew-ell in yer presumptions, tutsi...'

and then there was the IT instructor that pronounced file as fie-oooh..don't know where he came from, he appeared to have a speech impediment...

fie-ah seems to be accepted for fire in most popular music...in Light my fire Jim extends it to three syllables 'try to set the night on fie-ahhh-uhhh (06:50 after the instrumental)...' then a rim shot and Ray comes in...

southern folks in the US manage very well with the local soft but clipped language...no wasted syllables...
