Min of Transport commences New Year road safety campaign

BANGKOK, 26 December 2018 (NNT) - Thailand's Minister of Transport, Arkhom Termpittayapaisith , has launched a New Year road safety campaign, taking place from December 24th to January 2nd during which time over 15 million people are expected to travel throughout the country. 

The campaign consists of 2,300 free vehicle inspection stations across and 372 rest stops. The ministry has also established a traffic safety and facilitation center with the 24-hour hotline 1356 and has ensured that additional bus, train and airplane personnel are ready to accommodate all. 

At the same time, the ministry will be monitoring compliance with traffic laws, such as the wearing of helmets, fastening of seatbelts and switching on of vehicle lights, with special surveillance on roads with historically high accident rates. 

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Public Health has launched its own emergency hotline, 1669, and has prepared emergency rooms and ambulances to support the road safety campaign. 

Permanent Secretary of Public Health Sukhum Karnchanapimai said he has instructed medical personnel across the country to stand ready around the clock to assist those in need.

Seven Deadly Days. They just pull this same old thing out of the same old hat year after year for The Christmas/New Year and Songkran.

Every day is a deadly day on the roads in Thailand. You only have to take a look at this drooby minister to know he wouldn't have a clue as to what's going on around him.

Emergency rooms, abulances and hotlines has nothing to do with the "road safety" campaign. That "support" is there only to take care of the victims from a nonfunctioning "campaign".

Does this "campaign" minister really believe that free vehicle inspections at various rest stops would help? In 99.9% of the accidents, it's the drivers fault, not the vehicles.

No amount of campaigns will affect the road toll in Thailand. Not if they are conceived of and run by Thais anyway.

 

Better to just accept the carnage, a quick pacowato or two down at the local wat and all will be right as rain. You know how Thais are...

As usual "talk talk talk" but no work-shop !! This topic definitly not easy to solve, first of all the management who take care of this has lack of knowledge and always argue against better knowledge and experience( ThaiProudness) !! To sit and produce document and don't follow up (responsibility) waste of work !! First of all you must investigte CAUSE AND EFFECT !! As usual adequate education is the KEY ! And you must implement SAFETY FIRST IN ALL SITUATIONS ! learn the drivers right attitude, judgement, respect and responsibility for your own behavor , this is normal basic knowledge !!!!

It would be safe to say that any 'improvement" in the death rates is likely t be totally unconnected to these measures.

 

as the government seem unaware that the death toll over the holiday period is usually lower or similar to any other day, it would indicate they are tackling the problem from a position of gross misinformation.
