Russian Helicopters hopes Mi-171A2, Ansat models to be in demand in Thailand

 

Thailand has shown interest in Russia’s helicopters Ansat, Mi171A2 and Ka-32

 

BANGKOK, December 27. /TASS/. Thailand has shown interest in Russia’s helicopters Ansat, Mi171A2 and Ka-32, the CEO of the holding company Helicopters of Russia (an affiliate of Rostec), Andrei Boginsky, told TASS on Thursday.

 

"As far as Thailand is concerned, the helicopters Ansat and Mi-171A2 have aroused great interest. Thailand’s police are interested in purchasing Ansats. Also, there has been interest in the search and rescue configuration of Mi-171A2," said Boginsky, who is in Thailand on a visit.

 

"Also, we have been holding talks on selling Ka-32 helicopters to that country. This helicopter is in great demand. Our Thai counterparts have seen them in action in South Korea and China. Ka-32 can be used for fighting fires. It is capable of carrying horizontal fire-fighting systems," Boginsky said.

There are a million and one truly valuable things that can be done by a military junta with  masses of money, to help the Thai people  - and buying more helicopters is not one of them!

The junta may not have done much for the ordinary people in the past 4+ years but they have certainly maintained a full trough for the privileged minority snouts.

The purchase of variety of Russian helicopters will bring significant benefits. These benefits will far outweigh the benefits which can be gained from spending the money on fixing the existing (largely broken) fleet of American and European made helicopters. The benefits from doing that are just not competitive.

Of course they are showing interest. Anything with a high price tag that could show a decent 'commission' payment will be of great interest whether its actually required or not. That have a great history in this field.

If you are ever buying something in the supermarket or department store or the fresh food market or paying for a government service and you think to yourself, gosh that's expensive or that's such low quality for the price. Well, there's a link you know between this story and that event.

 

All this corruption has to be paid for and it is done indirectly by a higher cost of living for a lower quality of goods and services and that price is paid by society as a whole.

That is always the reason why things in Thailand don't get maintained, there is too little chance for graft on maintenance. Purchase is where the rewards are

Don't worry, for the vast majority of the population Somchai and his old pick up, (God and The Buddha bless him, for all his faults he and his mates are doing their best) will still be who turns up.

 

The helos will be fitted with comfy seats and be used to ferry VIPs around...

Russian helicopters, Russian companies. Less oversite from that end of the required Thai kick-back requirements. As I understand, 30% is the standard expectation. It's hard for western companies to cover up that kind of feeding at the trough.
