visit the local rural hospital. they likely have experience dealing in locally prevalent cause of diarrhea. not immediately necessary to travel and visit an overpriced high end hospital

You have the dreaded "mahaka". Scourge of Thailand expats. Go to a good pharmacist and they will give a good gut bacteria and then after three days you will start a new good bacteria in you. Dehydration will send you to the hospital so drink at least 2 liters per day. You have somehow ingested tap water to get this. I even keep my toothbrush in peroxide. You may have damaged your kidneys after 6 months. Beer does not help as alcohol dehydrates you also. Best of luck.

It's rare in Thailand anymore but - Giardia

Don't take immodium, that's just stupid. It doesn't cure anything.

Imagine you are very dehydrated

I'd suggest getting tested for giardia and or cryptosporidia infestation. They should show up in a fecal test. The symptoms you describe are fairly typical.

Amoebic dysentery is another candidate.

This is a medically correct post. Thanks to Lacessit. Other possibilities are coccidoidomycosis

and a veritable zoo of other infectious agents associated with ... HIV INFECTION. (See https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4499110/ ) You can try everything mentioned by other posters, but what you need to do at some point is (a) get an HIV test; and (b) get yourself to a board certified infectious disease specialist or gastroenterologist.

You might just have given out an important clue here. Have a read of this article and I would suggest you do further research. I think that 4-5 large bottles, that's 6 to 7 litres approx. is too much. Read on:

Try changing from Chiang to Singha, or vice versa.

I certainly couldn't do 4 or 5 bottles of either nowadays.

EndleAfter six months, no advice here is worth anything. You need to go o a Doc and some fecal lab work done.

Chances are this is some stupid worm infestation, but it could be worse.

But you'll never know by endless web searches!

Go to the Doc, and a real one, not the neighborhood quack who'll send you away with a baggie of pills without even examining you!

colonoscopy. Now. Also medicine before by doctor. I had it. It is a start and getting better. 30K in Chiang Mai. Maybe cheaper other places. Doctor will a the least be able to diagnose. Finding nothing they will probably say it is irritable bowel syndrome and tell you to follow a good diet for this diagnosis .

Thanks for the replies. I'll keep you all updated to see who gave the best and worst advice.

One thing I didn't mention is a gas problem, so even if I have diarrehea once in the morning, this will be followed by another 4-5 trips to the toilet when just gas is coming out. This is why I think it's dietary problem I can fix myself. Previously I was drinking 5+ large bottled beers a day, along with 3+ coffees, 3+ spicy meals (including street food).

FYI i'm middle aged, live too far from Bangkok and only meds I take is omeprazole (for acid reflux)

Gas is very common with giardia.

I do not think diet alone can account for this.

You do nto need to come into Bangkok to get a stool test done.

I think you should clarify what you mean by "diarrhea", is it just that your stools are loose but frequency normal or is it several/many episodes of diarrhea a day?

Go see a doctor. T.V is the last place I would be looking for solutions..

why not, this is where many "bored certified" ones hang out

How could you think about worms crawling around inside you for 15 days? Most Thais I know take this once a year just to be sure.  Takes a day

Took one of these 2 nights ago and stools have returned to normal, no diarrhoea since.

Though I have also quit coffee sachets which contained creamer powder and sweeteners which also could have fixed it.

Water actually triggers it first thing in the morning

maybe can drink less water.

I know when i drink alot of water or fluids (non alcohol) i have diarrhea too because the kidneys couldn't processing that amount of fluids.

Other advice for you is: go see a doctor 4 months ago.

Geeez… If somebody has diarrhea for more then 2 weeks that means somethings is wrong.

liquids are  absorbed via the digestive tract where the effect of water could lead to diarrhea if absorption is impeded/slowed. unrelated to kidneys short of renal failure.  you would need to have kidneys fail to lead to diarrhea

Not reading the whole thread so excuse me if already posted.

My life was miserable for several months with diahrea and doctors couldn't fix it.

I friend recommended a naturopath which I was reluctant to do because back then they were considered as witch doctors lol

Diagnosed me in 30 mins with suspected gluten intolerance and he was right.

I recommend you see one

Sorry to argue with you but it does work.  Myself, my wife, and numerous friends and acquaintances have used it.  Often I find friends and others clearly have diarrhea and both my wife and I carry some with us at all times.  I started using it more than thirty years ago when I had my first bout of diarrhea over thirty years ago at a distant work location....I had never had it before and didn't know what to do.  I had it so bad it took me two days to make my 1 1/2 hour journey to get home.  I had to rent a motel room and see a doctor who prescribed Imodium for me, which of course worked quite well.

Whatever your experiences have been, they have been clearly opposite to mine and the people who I know have used it with great success.  It would be interesting to know what happened to you that you don't believe it works.....please respond so we can share with others.

This is potentially pretty serious... Psyllium Husk in cold milk, letting it turn into a form of pudding, to be eaten with fruit plus activated coal tablets work for me.

Get better quickly!
