Pattaya on alert as smog crisis threatens resort

 

 

The Pattaya News reported that public health authorities were advising residents at the resort to follow news of the smog crisis closely. 

 

Reports suggest that the 2.5 PM particulate matter was at its worst in the early morning hours and in the evenings. 

 

Environmental specialist Rungnapha Thapnonghee said that since the 16th of January the dust levels had been monitored closely. 

 

The worst times showed readings of between 50 and 60 that were recorded on the 29th and 30th of January (earlier reports suggested Bangkok faced levels of 166 micrograms per cubic meter).

 

Runghapha said that people going out should take necessary precautions. 

 

And the aged or infirm should be especially vigilant at this time. 

 

Meanwhile, a video shared on Facebook showed smog blanketing the resort on Thursday morning.

Just wear a pollution mask if your on your bike so that bad dust does not travel down to your lungs.

I know It's easy to joke about this, but being exposed to particles over several years can lead to serious illness.

Not sure where the ‘Thai’ limits for 2.5 particles come from (well I do, dreamed up as usual). WHO is 10 average per annum and 25 average for 24 hours. As is the way with most things here....if you cannot pass, lower the standard.

Very hard first he has to stop counting the contents of the brown envelope then he has to extract his fat arse from the seat he sits in all day then he has to engage the brain to function in a manner befitting a person who upholds the law then he has to have a couple of Thai whisky's with the Somchai responsible for the smoke while they sort out an amicable payment for local policeman to look other way, see that's a lot of thinking for one person on such a small problem. Driving to Bangkok Thursday a week ago on the motorway there was a large fire right off the motorway--no tracing would have been needed at all.  But, not a single cop in sight as the fire raged.  Plenty of other fires a distance off the road as well and the sky looked like the posted photo in one of the earlier posts.  Burning is not just a CM problem.

It would, take 'effort', and that is not allowed in Thailand's finest. It would show up all the other lazy cops.

The readings quoted by the locals is from Chonburi - not a station monitoring Suhk road at the Pattaya Tai, Klang or Nua junctions behind a string of chinese tour busses at 8 p.m. every night.

Shows both the AQI value and the corresponding micrograms of PM2.5 measurement.

 

And the sensor seems to be centrally located in actual central Pattaya.
