Chiang Mai News said that the police in the northern Thai city had issued a statement about fake news.

This came after a a woman online claimed that a 2 million note pile of money was fake 1000 baht bills that had surfaced in Ban Mae Thalop of Chai Prakarn district, Chiang Mai. This is in the area known as the Golden Triangle loop.

The poster asked people to share the news saying the fakes were not very good - they didn't have a picture of Rama 10 on the left as they should.

The police said that these were pictures from an old story from China. The notes featured the image of former chairman of the communist party Mao Zedong.
