PHUKET: Phuket International Airport is expected to receive more than half a million arrivals in the next 10 days as Phuket becomes a focal point for Chinese New Year celebrations, which get underway on Tuesday (Feb 5).

The total number of booked seats on planes arriving in Phuket from today (Feb 2) through to Feb 10 stands at 637,558, said Thanee Chuangchoo, General Manager of Phuket International Airport.

“International passengers account for 387,799, or about about 60%, of the bookings so far,” he said. “The remaining 249,759 are domestic passenger bookings,” he added.

Ahhh.

That explains it.

I knew I could hear whimpering last night.

Coming from ponds over at the neighboring prawn farm.

oh lordy! hope they stay away from cm

Don't know about the New Year but I just come from Phuket and I have never seen so many Chinese at once in the last 2 weeks (typical Chinese termites travelling with their entire 2 or 3 generation families) . Patong was absolutely crazy.

How many will go home in one piece or go home at all

can we see those stats in a month

This will help the TAT inflate their annual tourist arrival figures....i am guessing 22 billion next year?

Perhaps, future "high seasons and low seasons" will be judged by the amount of moon cake sold.  ????
