Thailand was one of the choices for a transfer location that I was given by my work at the time.  If I could go back in time 30 years, and knowing what I know now, I wouldn't change that choice.

  • Popular Post

At 22yrs old... my first job - I was offered Thailand or Rio.... knowing little about either place at the time, I chose Thailand....  I don't regret that choice and knowing what I know now I would stick to the majority of choices I have made since, perhaps with the exception of moving back to the UK and working there for a couple of years before moving back to Thailand....  I guess it was healthy to see what the 'grass was like on the other side'.....

I can still move back at any time, so there is no pressure to stay, reaming in Thailand is a choice I am very comfortable with.

The question is: "Do the Thais regret me moving to Thailand"?...????

  • Popular Post

Up until recently, no, I didn't regret the move, but in light of the pending elections, the way things have developed/undeveloped in recent days, the prospect of you-know-who being PM, etc., etc., etc. I am starting to wonder if I really want to stay here or not. PLUS I have a child who I'd like to see grow up in Europe - mainly for the political stability, better education and health care, etc.

Am really stuck between a rock and a hard place now.

All of the above aside, I still like it here and I love the weather! ☀

Yes I’d still come here as the only time I consider if I’m unhappy is when I read certain threads about how bad Thailand or Thai people are. That’s when I close the app, make some lunch and go back to knowing I’m happy here.

I am happy i made the decision 18 years ago, but if i could turn back the clock, i would have done things differently

Ouch...  if ever there were a Freudian slip.....

.... remaining ...   This Grammarly program *(that I'm also seeing advertised everywhere) is clearly not up to the task of solving my typos....

Give me the military junta of Thailand over the inept, lying, scheming and scumbag politicians of the UK any day of the week.

If I had such choice, I would choose living in TH. My impression after having been in and out for nearly 10 years and renting a place long-term in BKK is that TH is a very good place to live for great many reasons, regardless of the elections.

Because the same, or very similar questions keep getting asked.

Chiang Mai for about 6 years now.  First 2-3 were pretty nice but now it's lost the appeal for me.

The things keeping me here are good food, adult massages, and inertia.  I've taken out a one year Vietnam visa and will visit Danang  soon for the purpose of seeing if I want to relocate there.  Otherwise it'll be back to the USA in August when my visa here expires, where I will plan my next destination.

hi, i'd love to hear about it, how accessible things are with a bike, if theres power -outs, some pics wouldnt hurt either

My wife & I moved to Thailand to spend the final years of her parents lives with them.

Our choice so no regrets there

We were happy we got to spend that time with them.

After 5 years when they passed (both in the same year????)   we moved back to our home in the US.

Like I said it was a great experience & we enjoyed it & we also considered living the rest of our lives in Thailand.

But then the Junta took over & things looked like they were heading south in many ways & in hindsight we are now quite happy we left.

We still go back a few months per year to visit my wife's siblings & it is a nice way to go. Very relaxed,

No visa hassles, Travel Insurance is affordable for 2-3 months. Never step foot in Immigration office because I have the 90 day

visa to visit family.

Poll does not have a choice for us ???? Which would be happy we went & happy we left when we did.

I have no regrets. I am leaving but that is because of circumstances in my own life, and I was planning to do that before recent changes in extension requirements. Thailand has been good to me, a good place to live, and may be again in a few years.

I keep my door open and do not invest here, but so far, no better option to go any other place. I have looked at Phil, neighbouring countries, South America, but Thailand still remain as Nr 1.

I might have considered Vietnam if it had been on my radar when I emigrated. Choice of Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand, all of where I had worked previously. Thailand won easily, and still does.

But if Phil had direct flights from mye home country, I would maybe consider it again.

thailand cant deal with me being able to do everything. When i moved to thailand decades ago i was a simple person. 9-5 job like everyone else i guess. Quit it all and sold houses and cars to live here because i thought it was smart concidering i have a health condition that will shorten my life. I have a thai wife and children and thought it best they remain near the thai family. Well since then due to being sick of incompetency ive become a qualified machinst, electrician, builder, etc.. Because i ride and race motorcycles, trick bicycles and even ride a skateboard in my old age im too much for neighbours to deal with so we will never be accepted. Lost houses, cars, moved 12 times and now carry a gun semi legally. Had to deal with mafia, dodgey land developers, criminals, corrupt officals and hey even pollution on a daily basis double that of bkk so yep, thailand sux but we couldnt afford to move away for the benefit of the future of the kids so i live here and do what i want to fill in my time even though thais are jealous or just racist because its different to sitting around drinking and putting other ppl down or trying to figure a scam to get money from us .

We are happy here ,i live in a house next to quite well off Thais , they are all very nice and chat mainly to my wife ,but also wave and say hello to me and have done for the last 12 years or so ,i have never had any problems here ,and seem to be accepted ,my wifes family are lovely , and i have never come across any of the "sick buffalo" stories from them ,that is except her youngest brother , but i am not alone as he trys it with all the family . as for the bullshit that all Farangs marry bar girls ,well only one person i know did ,and to be honest when he told me i was amazed ,i would never have thought it ,most i know met their wives long after they got bored with the bar scene .but then i suppose those who think everyone marries a bar girl ,are those who were only able to find a woman who worked in one .
