Amid STD explosion, Pattayarak health clinic expands

PATTAYA:--With steadily increasing reports of sexually transmitted disease infections, Naklua’s Pattayarak Center has upgraded its operation to accommodate the rush of new patients.

 

Dr. Suwanachai Wattana­yingcharoen, director-general of Thailand’s Department of Disease Control, joined Pattaya Deputy Mayor Banlue Kullavanijaya at the Valentine’s Day opening of the expanded center behind Lan Po Market.

 

Suwanachai said the center’s patient load has increased from 5,500 in 2015 to 12,134 in 2017. Meanwhile, though, Thailand has added only 60 new public health clinics during the same time.

 

Pattayarak Center previously won an award of excellence from the Public Health Ministry, servicing both sex workers and the public.

Maybe because "there is no prostitution" in Pattaya/Thailand,so lots feel safe not to use a condom ? + AIDS has become a "manageable" condition + you only live once so make the most of it ,although Thais may believe in re-incarnation so they get another go.

With a headline like that, I'd imagine Pattaya expats would be scared stiff....in a manner of speaking.

Sex workers? where have they come from there is no prostitution here????

Just a little clarification. AIDS is a condition that results from untreated HIV. They are not quite the same thing. Being HIV+ is a completely manageable health condition. With proper daily medication that is widely available you will lead a normal and healthy life. Also with routine medication, HIV+ people will be able to very quickly reduce the level of the virus to a point where they are incapable of transmitting it to others.

If however HIV is untreated and if your level of CD4 cells drops to below 200 that would be considered an AIDS diagnosis. Which means that your body's immune system would no longer be able to fight off opportunistic infections that a healthy immune system would have no problem dealing with. HIV does not cause death but rather it is from other infections and complications resulting from an improperly functioning immune system. Now you can also recover from an AIDS diagnosis with the proper treatment. So yes actually, now HIV is a completely manageable health condition. Hahaha servicing both sex workers and public .. What is it a clinic or knocking shop .. 

That building right at the seafood market. What a strange place to put a health clinic.

So, one clinic in the Pattaya area, where there's a registered population of over 300,000 locals but a broadly recognized area population including foreigners and tourists of around 1 million, has a registered patient count of over 12,000.

 

Meanwhile, the two premier clap clinics in Greater Manchester UK, serving a registered population of just over half-a-million, share a database of around a quarter-million registered patients.

 

When it comes to STD 'explosions', context is a wonderful thing but for the northwest of England anyway, the term '2-for-1' has another, largely unheralded meaning.

First off that location gives plausible deniability for why you're in the area. Second it is easy to find (get to) via bahtbus. Third directions to get there are pretty simple. At the time of first locating there it wasa probably a very inexpensive place to build, buy, rent, etc...

The population of Greater Manchester is 2.75 million. The database may contain names of anyone who has ever been there. That could include me but that was 40 years ago.
