BANGKOK, 25 February 2019 (NNT) – The Pollution Control Department (PCD) reported that more than 3,000 vehicles have been inspected for exhaust fumes which might exceed the safety limits in Bangkok.

PCD Director General Pralong Damrongthai said the PCD has organized seven special operation units to cooperate with the traffic police to detect vehicles emitting black smoke in Bangkok since January 2019.

The officials have issued an order temporarily prohibiting the use of vehicles with black smoke exceeding the standard value for 30 days.

The PCD Director General reiterated that the driver can fix and improve the vehicles then have the official inspect them in order to revoke the order by 30 days from the date the order was issued.

People here seriously don't see the real problem, it's not about black smoke, diesel or gazzuline, it's about the number of vehicles there are on the road in BKK, no car is going faster that 3km/h in BKK they just burn gas for pollute and the heat of the engine is rising the temperature making the system becoming a gas chamber. they don't need cleaner cars, they need to get rid of the cars they don't need.

EDIT: they just don't have the infrastructure to handling the traffic. So as you cannot make a better one u reduce the number of vehicles...

This is so simple. Proven you change your oil in your diesel car or truck every 5,000 km, or forfeit the vehicle. Air improves. Second warning. You lose your vehicle. All proceeds go to improving the nationwide anti diesel campaign.

Black smoke, why not just get serious about emission testing every vehicle, with no bribes and no money under the table..you either pass or fail ...PERIOD

good point, but at least the majority of cars are newer and i would hope fitted  with cat convertors. If they are not equiped with cat's from the factory, shame on every f' en one of them.

A lot of pickups I see belching black smoke seem to be tuned up with cat converters replaced by noisy exhausts. Police never appear to take them off the road.

The go-faster ones have the injector pressure turned up or the ECU has been chipped.

the purpose of Catastrophic converters is not to remove diesel particulates.

Probably the upcountry pickups have had their diesel cut with palm oil or ....

Yet not one official has stopped a fire from burning in kanchanaburi apart from one where photos of such were posted on line as part of a taskforce to stop this burning. After my complaints no one has done anything. It's all a sham. Government doesn't give a hoot about the people. They want big taxes from cheap elec cars a technology used back as far as 1920 but stopped because of fuel greed but no one will bother to stop the needless burning of rubbish, sugarcane and forests. Forget the elec cars then. As much as i would love one i wouldnt bother until things change. I use a solar pump and during heavy pollution days my well pump pumps at half the speed it should meaning my tanks dont fill so as a result of this at the worst time of year we have lost somewhere around 200 banana plants. So i guess investing in solar power is also stupid. I think the Thai government have learning dificulties or something. They are really dum.

Stop checking the cars and check the IQs of all the top leaders and if they are as has been said lately dropped a further 5point average for thai people making it 75 i think its time to import a priminister?

How could anyone so ignorant and dum be elected or pushed in again. Theres NO hope!!

If I was relying on water for agriculture, I would have a back up diesel generator or if only to power the water pump for a few hours them maybe even a cheapie 2 -stroke generator would do? They are about 4500 baht . How much are 200 banana plants?

Over 3,000 vehicles in Bangkok inspected for black smoke air pollution

Of course white smoke and invisible air pollution won't be checked because they don't have the equipment to do so. So the smoke has to be black as to be visibly polluting. And, of course, 3,000, vehicles is a large percentage of those in Bangkok.  /sarc

But inspection showed they All meet the safety limit, as usual. Just like a few days of seatbelt safety measures for pick up trucks.

At the end everything shows normal and safe.

Sounds like another example of hot air (hot black air) from the authorities, achieving totally nothing.

And keep in mind there has been numerous campaigns over the last approx. 5 years on this matter, total waste of time and resources, and the pollution and high risk to health of kids, elderly and everybody just continues.

Notice, the government news release claims they INSPECTED 3000 vehicles... It doesn't say how many of those were passed or not passed. Perhaps like ONE failed, and the other 2999 were sent on their way...

Meanwhile, we learn that the PCD has had to set up some special monitoring units to go out and assist the traffic police with these vehicle emissions inspections starting last month.  As in, before last month, apparently, the PCD wasn't actively involved in doing any kind of vehicle emissions enforcement at all???

In other words wait about 5 years for any substantive comment, then another 5 years for any meaningful action. Totally disgraceful.
