Defacto laws in Thailand

Featured Replies

Talking to a friend this morning and he was adamant if living with a woman in Thailand over 12 months you can fall

under defacto laws, similar to what we have back home.

Has anything changed here or does anyone have any experience with this? My first thought was if such a thing existed

it should work both ways were a bloke has bought house, cars etc in his wife's name. She would be liable to give him

half if defacto (not legally married). In any case I assume she could only go you for what was mutually accumulated in the

time you were together same as legal marriage.

Thailand does not recognise defacto, or common law marriage. Not after any amount of time.

You are either legally married with a marriage certificate or you are not married at all.
