This is a reply to an e-mail received today March 2 from Thai Airways

It looks like some destinations (Chiang Rai for example) will have some flights to/from Don Muang and some to/from SUV

Some other destinations like Phitsanoluk will be exclusively to/from Don Muang

I suppose that Chiang Mai, Phuket and Krabi together with Chiang Rai will be in the first group and all other domestic destinations in the second with Phitsanoluk (just my thought)

DEAR PASSENGER,

Kindly be informed that our flights to Phisanulok will be

operated at Donmaung Airport. And flights to Chiangrai will be operated

at both Donmaung and Suvarnabhumi Airport.Flights number operated at

Donmaung Airport will be used as 4 digit start with ( 1 ) for example .

TG1100.For International flight will be operated at Suvarnabhumi Airport

so if passenger have to connect flight we need minimum connecting time

for 6 hour.

Best Regards,

I can see some logic behind allowing six hours- allowing for a lot of delays / worst case scenarios.

It is not unusual for a long haul flight to be late. If they were behind schedule leaving the point of origin and encountered head winds, it could be as much as two hours.

Allow an hour to get through Suvarnabhumi- walk time, passport control, baggage collection, restroom queue, find your transportation and get on the road.

I'd allow an hour for a taxi ride using motorway / expressway the entire way to DM. If you went on a surface route (or a bus) and encountered traffic anywhere, this could be two hours.

This adds up to five hours- and if you want to check in 60 minutes before the domestic flight leaves, it adds up to six hours total time between the scheduled landing of the international flight and the departure of the domestic flight.
