Wife borrows money now is detained at police station

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

My wife of 5 years borrowed some money 20t baht from a so called friend

A few days later so called friend goes with her husband to police

Tells them wife has not paid money back

Police come and detain wife and she has been at the police station for 4 days in a room no toilet etc

Wife says when money is paid she can go back to her shop

I was intending to send her the money but cannot till this tuesday coming

Has anyone heard about police detaining people like this and do you think getting a lawyer would help

Maybe there is more to that story which she didn't tell you.

As far as I know a bounced check over 50k is a reason for jail (but I don't think instant jail).

It's also possible that a police officer wants to play the tough guy who pressures you to pay. That would be illegal.

I guess first thing you should find out the official reason why she is in jail. If your Thai is not good enough bring an educated Thai person with you to the police station and ask the boss of the station (or someone high up).

Good luck!

Sounds like you are not with/close to your wife and can not verify the story?

This would leave a lot to imagination, good or bad.

I've spent some years educating my GF on the evils of borrowing. She is under no illusions as to what will happen if she does.

The OP should tell his wife to sort her own mess out.

After reading your post a 2nd time it seems you are far away from wherever that is happening, correct?

Where did you get your information from?

Did your wife call you?

Did someone else called you who spoke with your wife?

Did you talk directly to the police or is this all over 3rd parties who might or might not tell you the truth?

Best advice there is! Neither a borrower nor a lender be! - Once they realise you are not going to automatically cough up, and they face the consequences (No flinching mind! Never mind no money no honey, never mind the wailing and the crocodile tears, the suicide threats etc.etc.- Stand your ground) They won't do it again, especially if they actually have the loss of face when they have to meet the lender to explain.

So you don't live with your wife? Sounds like a BS story to me. How long have you been married?

  • Popular Post

Clearly, there is a back story to this which the OP needs to suss out.

And how has the wife been unable to go to the toilet for 4 days?

The whole story stinks!

Sorry, sounds like a story to scam you out of some money.

My former misses owed 500k, all she got was a judgement stopping her owning land/vehicles or a bank account for 5 years. No police, and after 5 years the loan was written off.

If we knew where she was, we could take a look, recommend a solicitor, etc.

With no details, you just sound like another troll.

New poster, no other posts .................

and she's into scamming you for ONLY 20K..... lucky man 555

The trouble is that if they're married then it's his mess too.

Your wife is borrowing money without discussing it with you ? Your wife, has been in jail allegedly for a number of days and you refer to a forum before ensuring her release? Seems there are a lot of issues here, trust being the main one it would seem.

I will buy a pizza for you and deduct the money from your account ????

You could create a 'gofundme' appeal to raise the 20,000 Baht.

Not unusual for the police to intermediate in a bad loan dispute, but have never heard of one party being incarcerated until payment. Normal recourse - I would think - would be a civil lawsuit. Smells very fishy to me.

I bet the cell does if your second line is correct !!!

according to law police can't arrest her 20K, both parties will sit together and talk, and what ever they agree the amount , your wife has to pay monthly or weekly, i can smell some fishy sauce

It won’t stink as much as his wife if the toilet story is true?

Sounds a bit fishy, like the OP is the target of a “shakedown”?

Sleepy..... If u believe in Santa Claus, the Easter bunny and fairy tales then you will believe this story too. But ..... I believe it's just a BS story to squeeze you out of money and to check how much you love her. Ask her at which police station she is and that u will send a friend with $$$ to help her. Then U will see how fast she can get out of jail BEFORE this friend arrives. Lol.

I'll reserve comment, I need to see some pictures of her.  The system works both ways:   No money, no honey/ fat, few or no  baht
