Can I get a shot of XO in my coffee, please, Ducky?

Careful miss JG, you're slipping into that there back slappin' pseudo chat room blah blah blah stuff.

Anyhow, if LBD's got the XO out, make mine a large one, strike the coffee (caffiene is bad for you) :D , with ice. :o

I never heard about Bedlam until it appeared sometime after the 500 mark. <deleted> is all this I thought, and nuttin' much has changed there since. Bedlam is a playground so surely it's the best place for a bit of childish humour.

On the other forum threads, I read the ones that look interesting or that I think I may be able to input. If I disagree with someone, so what? If someone disagrees with me so what? Most times I don't bother entering into those childish bickering contests 'cos it aint worth the effort. If I got a humourous, to me, remark to make I'll make it and if you don't like it don't read it.

Maybe what is needed is an Oxbridge mass debating forum for all the highbrows, minimum entrance qualification: PhD in fundamental subliminal esotericism or such like. :D

old croc on the right - childish backslappers on the left :o

walrusbucketlu3ms3.jpg

I'm with Old Crock as far as the taking over of threads by a few posters with slapstick humor amongst themselves. It's happened to a couple of the (very few) threads I've started as well, then I just abandon it. The subject and point of the thread gets lost in a few pages of inane 'chat' from three or four posters backslapping each other about crap. Not just in Bedlam.

I sometimes join in with these posters in the same vein - on threads of this kind - simply cos I can enjoy all kinds of humor. As in diversity of views, I love diversity of humor and people as well.

Of late, I have started to use ignore, something i have resisted doing for a long time. Basically those that only appear to have one approach to everything.

I believe there's space for everyone in this world. Start a new thread and show the OP of the thread some respect. Else say your say and take a breather. Don't impose your 'truth' on everybody.

Agree with you all, but sometimes when the discussion gets heated, its lovely to have a wild west poster add a bit of shoot em up common sense or comic derivation to get the hotheads to relax for a mo. We could always address each other as "sir" and open posts with "I beg to differ with the right honourable poster's remarks, but..."

Agreed, but it should be an interjection, not a hijacking.

True, I think with my unbounded enthusiasm on occasion, I can be charged with that misdemeanour. Sometimes a thought link just pops into the head, and in aftersight, you realise it may be misconstrued as rude, malicious or demeaning. That is the power of words on a page over verbal chatter. I truly believe these words are not truly intended to hijack or debase.

Thank you for the support from some members. I think my point has been proved here by a few of the 'Cool Guys" who couldn't help themselves even on the Reverends serious thread attempt.

For those who made it personal, it says more about yourself than me.

Those who see the main point to be my discussion of Bedlam outside these walls I suggest you start a seperate thread for the inquision. Perhaps you can start with the OP of this thread who, I'm sure, would admit to using the term elsewhere himself.

For those who haven't read the full thread from where this was hijacked, I think you should, as mine was just one post among a number along the same theme. It will give you a sense of context. The OP of this thread is mentioned there in a not altogether favourable light.

no shit

Geez, sorry to be a female with something other than kitchen duties on the brain. Apologies if I offended you, DSK, or your friends for posting my thoughts. Don't see I'm any diff from the boys whose whims in words and photos go mostly unbridled here.

I avoided this so far but will say I agree mainly with OC's points. Way way too much mututal masterbation ooops sorry appriciation posting going on off topic in unrelated threads. As this is bedlam though the mods will not intervene but you would hope that those who like to send threads off on a unrelated tangent with the chat like posts (one or two lines addressed to a specific poster & the subsequent replies from their buddy) would know to take it to the actual chat & let the threads run without interferance. Obviously though they don't so...... :o:D

go burn your bra somewhere else - you are bringing your sex into this - not me!

I was just kidding just now - what happened to your sense of humour?

Boy, that's a pretty stale comment. Bra burning.

Well, if this forum has degenerated into poster bashing, whining and nasal inhalers, I think I have better things to do.

Just thought I could add some laughter and share ideas.

Thank you all kindly for your company.

This is bedlam.....the lowest common denominator rules!!!!

Those who want to disrupt will prevail.

ca ca poopie face stinky breath!!!! and if you don't like it then don't read this topic!!!

hahahhahahhahaha

the complaint seems to be that bedlam has been devalued by groups of posters forming clique's, quasi chat rooms and engaging in childish backslapping humour.

I am particularly interested in this comment, because I am of the belief that childishness (right time, right place) in adults is one part of a healthy personality.

As for people who are unable to express this side of them, or do not like seeing it being expressed in other adults, for whatever reason, I am of the following opinion:

//edit, general quote can apply to anyone.

It is as if, at some point in his childhood, he was so utterly quashed by serious, stern, duty-bound parents that he found the only safe way to proceed through life was to turn his Child off completely, or to block it out.

The "Child" ^^ being that part of the personality that expresses itself creatively, curiously, delightfully, etc.

All in all I think childish humor is fine as long as its balanced, and I think it is fine in Bedlam (right place for it),

IMHO. :o

All in all I think childish humor is fine as long as its balanced, and I think it is fine in Bedlam (right place for it),

I think you're finally getting it Grover. Balanced is the word I used.

Bedlam has been and still is a great place for all types of humour, but not on all posts all the time!! We have a jokes forum elsewhere for this. Childish is fine if that's your thing, but originality seems to have become the victim at the hands of repetition of late .

Bedlam evolved a tradition of open, sometimes serious discussion (less moderated) and humour (more bawdy) than is possible outside. I don't think it is up to you, and a couple of other very recent newcomers, to decide it is a jokes only forum.

Sometimes people have another message they wish to convey. As ORE has stated it can be annoying for the OP when a thread is hijacked. Have respect for your fellow posters and keep the humour, and chat, to the appropriate threads.

I'm not advocating a ban on humour.

In a way I liked your pisstaking by posting complete shit threads earlier. But I think not everyone understood that you were taking the piss.

Either way, strictly as a poster now and with the Mod's hat off, I also wish people could use the chatroom if chatting and bonding is what they need.

We all need a place to vent, and it's nice to feel one can express whatever one wants freely without somebody else dictating the 'rules'. The original idea with this forum was that it was to be unmoderated, and only for those who could handle the responsibility of self-moderation. When it was changed into 'everybody above 500 posts', it became more democratic. In some ways good, because people would not feel left out, and everybody got a fair chance at participating.

But it also had a number of drawbacks. So it changed from 'unmoderated' to 'lightly moderated', because some posters tried to constantly test the limits of what was permissible - the limits of what pictures one could post (we did have some turds that were removed, and worse things yet), the limits of how much flaming one could do, the limits of how much nonsense one could spout, the limits of one liner motor posting, the limits of thread hijacking, the limits of how many controversial political topics one could post... etc. etc.

And so it goes, in most online forums as in any group of humans, that an initial idea about complete freedom of expression must eventually be abandoned...

I don't post much in here anymore. Not because I dont like childish humour, I love nonsense and wackiness as much as the next guy. But repetition only works up until a certain point.... and its tiring to wade through a thread consisting of two-five people having an internal dialogue about, essentially, nothing. When you have finished reading one, you really wish you had used your time doing something else.

Just like I wish I had spent the past 15 minutes learning something constructive rather than writing this post.

...now let's all sing Kumbaya, Boon Me takes the lead:

Balanced as in part of a balanced personality as I made clear in the beginning of the post :o

thats all, :D

Well said. There is alot of arse kissing between certain members. I dont post too much in bedlam or other parts of TV anymore. Alot of new members would suck them selves off if they could. :o:D

ass kissing ? just a rare moment of love :o although I admit, did make me cringe a little.

glad you got it all off your chest, big fellas. hope thats the end of it.

At the risk of being labeled and arse kisser, I'd say 'and thats a pity'.

yay! last word. :D

:o

:D :D no fair. :D

:bah:

Have to agree with OC...in that most every thread I read the same old crew are on board.

Go back a few years and look at the diversity of comment, humour , informed intelligent dialogue

that tells you why TV.Com became so big.

If u have something to say then why on earth do u have to make multiple posts to say it. :o

Having tracked down the original thread yesterday, I was a little perturbed that OC was not the originator, nor was he the only poster that was criticizing certain elements of Bedlam.

Now Tel's OP here singled out OC, why was that, because of previous history between the two, this is my thinking and in my view an attack to instigate a flame war, one in which I believe both have come out fighting and I must admit, gotta declare it a draw in my view.

What it has created is a good balanced dialogue and I think Tel's original post was good, it no longer, I feel strikes me with fear to be standing at a bar and hearing, 'Crikeys Mate', behind me. ( OK I stole that term from Raro, an all round Good Guy, or was it Thad?, a great wit in his own lifetime, or was it Suegha?, Mig? Oh I don't know)

Dam, just fell into the auto grandiosement of fellow members.

I still feel if you don't like a thread just ignore it, if you don't like a poster, move on, I actually like some of the congratulatory banter that goes on as long as it is not prolonged and too sycophantic, and some people should learn the need for self restraint, but then that is their choice, as I have a choice which I exercise and I move on when necessary.

Good Luck

Agreed, that's why I don't read every where do I buy cheese in Nakhon Nowhere thread.

EDIT: Or every Donz is great thread either!

I've been reading this thread since it started, but not posted, as, until now, I had nothing to say about it. I'm very new in Bedlam & whereas some of you are talking about years ago, the Bedlam you see today is the only one I've seen.

However, to defend Terry's OP and his possible motivation for writing it, I too, read the thread on general topics before I saw this one. I have a feeling Terry may have been one of the members reading it at the same time as me. OC's post also stood out to me, as one that was quite critical & I was pretty sure I knew who he was talking about. When I next logged onto Bedlam & saw the title of this thread, I knew immediately, without reading it, exactly what it referred to. So, it made an impression on me too. Other than that, I have no real opinion on the points raised; it's like being asked to compare apples & oranges when you've only ever seen or tasted an apple... Like others, I reserve my right not to read or participate in threads which don't interest me.

Well put, Meadish.

One of the reasons a couple of current events threads were generated. Mostly to get away from the heavy preponderance of 'essentially nothing' topics. 'Rain' finally died a deserved death in the General Forum (I think)- perhaps stuff like 'Last Word' can follow suit in the not too-distance future as well?

BTW, I still remember how 'Kumbaya' goes - had the hots for this babe Sunday School teacher when I was a kid and paid real close attention to everything she taught me! :o

p.s. No disrespect intended but post #54 in the present thread is a good example of what we're talking about...
