The driver of a BMW Series 7 car pulled over in the Klong 5 area of Pathum Thani around 2.30 am this morning after he smelled burning.

Ekkarat Chumai, 38, investigated by opening the hood and suffered minor burns as a fire scorched him.

He called the fire services and a rescue foundation but they were not in time to save the car.

It was completely destroyed.

Ekkarat was taken to a Rangsit hospital.

Modern fuel injection systems running at 100+ PSI. Doesn't take much of a leak to cause a problem, electric pumps still pushing the fuel through even when the engine stops in an accident or if a fuel joint starts to leak without an accident.

Old carb' systems running at 2/3/5 PSI and when the engine stops the fuel stops.

Ever wondered why cars burst into flames more often nowadays????

Could also be an older 7, fitted with LPG.  A lot of the 90s BMWs and Benzes on the roads have swapped engines and LPG conversion.

Very likely. BMS run way too hot for an LPG conversion.

so what

Exactly , a BMW gets burnt out yet many rapes of children, deaths increasing due to air pollution go largely unreported. Strange reporting ethics.

If you search the net for "BMW fire risk" you find some interesting hints :whistling:

30 fires in South Korea.

Many fires of parked(!) cars in the US.

Etc. etc.

Recalls in the million range.

It's a fiery business.

Yeah, but if we see this numbers of incidents up against the total sale those numbers of incidents will appear to be nothing but peanuts ...

The BMW 7 series has been around for 40 years. I am no BMW expert and it must be hard even for a trained eye, to tell what that charred hulk was. As others have said, it may have had an LPG conversion when they dumped a Toyota engine in the car. Who cares, except the owner.

In most countries 20 year old 7s are quite cheap.

BMW's seems to not need a LPG modification to start burning:

Driver trapped in burning BMW after engine caught fire, brakes failed. Cause unclear

Nearly 2 million BMWs were recently recalled worldwide for a wiring issue that could lead to a fire ...

Not here in LOS... if it was a clapped out Ford you wouldn't hear a thing...
but a "Beamer" that's worth reporting because it must belong to someone with a few bob and it's worth taking the p*ss by reporting it & posting a pic !
