Maybe the poor little bugger just voluntarily bangs his head when he has to listen to 21st Century "music". I know I do.

I certainly hope KittenKong is including ALL of these people when expressing their sentiments and not limiting it to Thais.

Of course.

If performed in the west, there would be outrage and the zoo would most likely be closed and people go to jail for such abuse. Here, the crowd laugh and it goes on raising revenue. I always thought before coming here that Buddhists would be the sweetest people who went out of their way to look after creatures, not abuse them for cash. I can only hope that something will be done to help, though with money talking so loudly, I sadly suspect the elephant is going to live a miserable existence. Shameful.

Correct and if we put it in a rather tragi-comic retro perspective - foreign tourists who are caught performing a natural banging for free on a lonely beach away from the crowd destroys Thailand image, but Thais who force malnourished elephant babies to perform unnatural banging for money in the middle of the crowd - they are not considered destroying Thailand's reputation ...

BUT again we are comparing with the west which may be wrong due to the fact that Thailand in many ways is still 100 yrs behind the west so with that in mind we loose a fair basis for comparisons - even it hurts ...

Would the visitors be Chinese ?? wont watch myself.

My thoughts as well! Perhaps the Chinese should be asked to dance then eat a buffet as much of you can of bunches of bananas and sticks of sugar cane!
