Haven't you been curious enough to google and find the answer?  What, its been 3 days since everyone else knew what happened?

Why don't you just tell us what happened ?

just like many others - crystal ball expert...

Spidermonkey007 why do you think he was bad?Because he was doing his job and cleaning up the overstayers, drug dealers, scammers, illegal entrants, and catching the criminals. If that's bad in your eyes you surely need a doctor.

As for the expat thing. The rules of immigration are made to be followed. Many weren't following the rules in regards to income and when the income affidavits stopped they were exposed.

Those who played by the rules and had the income have no problem staying in Thailand.

As for the tourists i'll bet a months pay 99.9% of them didn't even know the job he was doing or know of him.

Sounds you are one who didn't follow the rules and eventually got burned once they were properly enforced.

You are right but all the changes made still left one huge loophole in the process- the Agents. It might be that he was planning to fix that problem too and that the loss in extra income for many in Immigration (including some high up people) was too much to accept so they found a way to get him bounced. We may never know the truth as corruption is a cornerstone of life in Thailand and there is no place for honest cops.

Of course he was not seen in Songkhla!

Two reliable sources (one of them the "other" English newspaper) state that he was seen briefly at the police HQ.

He left the building quickly without any statements or the like.

What surprises me: is he really walking free(?), because other sources say:

he did exactly what he told his subordinates not to do.

He took bribes for promotion/advantages within the organization!
That would be a very disappointing hypocrite.

Other sources: Thai radio news according to a reliable mate who posted in a German language forum.

And re-publishing it in TV is not a good idea either.  On another matter , coming from Songhla, I wonder whether he was a Muslim ? If so I hope that would not be a factor in this story.

Why would that be an issue. The last coup maker before Prayuth, and also an army general, was a Muslim.

Surachate was transferred to an inactive post on orders from national police chief Gen Chakthip Chaijinda on Friday.

He was told to report to the 20th floor of Building One until further notice.

That must be one-hell-of-a floor!

Why would these wealthy expats, businessmen, "house owners" want to leave Thailand for a minor change in producing evidence of funds/income?

It is not about the "minor changes". It is about the nonstop hatred and war on foreigners. It has a trickle down effect. When the big dogs talk about the evils of outsiders all the time it filters down into the consciousness of some of the less intelligent people. It creates hatred and fear. He was stopped. And we all rejoice!

Well, it's a well known fact that Thais don't like foreigners, nothing new there. So 1 down, 60 million to go...

I do not necessarily agree with that conclusion. Sure, if you live in Pattaya, Samui, or Phuket, you have some of the most jaded Thais in the nation, and many are sour and not pleasant to be around. But, in the rest of the country, I do not find that to be the case, and despite the ultra nationalist nonsense being spouted by Prayuth, the now banished biggest joke, and some of the other fools at the top, I think most Thais still do not dislike us. Many are indifferent, but that is a lot better than dislike.

honest, law abiding ex-pats

What on Earth is an ex-pat - an Irishman who's renounced his citizenship?

I agree, all the Thai people I come across are always pleasent and polite, sometimes a little reserved but feel that is mainly the result of the language barrier. If there is someone there to translate etc.  there is absolutely no problems.

Absolutely - behaving otherwise would be a loss of face. However, that's not the same as showing what they really think

They show what they think by their actions and demeanour, no different than most Farangs

His actions cleaned up Sukumvit road, all night road side bars, even the hawkers sailing vaping products, African men sailing their stuff, Burmese men selling sex toys, deprived African women from impoverished nations to have a shot at the Thai prosperity. He tried to change the face of Thailand as a free-for-all sex and drug destination. And he surely stepped on somebody's toe. I want my Bangkok to go back to the  "good old days" of a sex city on steroid otherwise there is no fun coming to Thailand to inhale smog, smell stinky sois, walk on broken pavements in scorching heat and eat unsanitary foods from street hawkers. As soon as things get relaxed, I will head to Thailand or wait till October. Now enjoying Benidorm.

Good description of Thailand without the "night-life" ????
