PHUKET: The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a nationwide thunderstorm warning for today through to Tuesday (Apr 13-16) that includes Phuket, Phang Nga, Krabi, Ranong, Trang and Satun.

Other areas in the South included in the warning are Yala and Narathiwat.

The nationwide warning explained that a high pressure area from China will spread to cover the northeast and the South China Sea.

Hurry up storms. I need the rain to fill up the tanks and water the gardens.

Where are you?

Warning nationwide, so why in 2 instances mention the provinces affected in the south.

Possibly for the same reason Thais do not mention the "West" of the country. Man many years ago, shortly after I met my first Thai wife, we were talking and when I mentioned provinces in the West she was adamant that there was no west in Thailand !  I explained its on the compass and she did not even know what a compass was. And no, it was not lost in translation as I had shown her a picture of one.   Amassing for someone awarded a degree in Media Communications.  That was starting point I guess to the long journey into understanding Thai standards and not wanting to believe facts.

But hey ho, many many years later, and the odd Thai wife or two later, like a missionary I tried my best but so far failed miserably, they still don't want to learn anything new.

So considering that the poster was making the point as there were announcements regarding nationwide storms, yet only mentioning the areas in the South of the country, I am not surprised as it typifies my point of the foregoing.

From another thread "These are the provinces that are affected:

Northeast: Bueng Kan, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, Khon Kaen, Chaiyaphum, Kalasin, Maha Sarakham, Roi Et, Yasothon Loei, Nong Bua Lamphu, Khon Kaen, Chaiyaphum, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buri Ram, Surin, Si Sa Ket and Ubon Ratchathani

Northern region: Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Phrae, Nan, Lampang, Tak, Sukhothai, Uttaradit, Phitsanulok, Kamphaeng Phet, Phichit and Phetchabun

Central: Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Chai Nat, Sing Buri, Ang Thong, Ayutthaya, Lop Buri, Saraburi, Suphanburi, Ratchaburi, Kanchanaburi, and Bangkok.

East : Prachin Buri, Sa Kaeo, Nakhon Nayok, Chachoengsao, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat"

Seems to me that without adding the provinces there simply was not enough text in the article.

this is a common Thai thing, on the local radio news programs they will endlessly list out an absurd number of tambon or Amphoe for this or that.... as many as 15 or 20 of those for even the most inconsequential news item. they also endlessly add “jungwat Chiangmai” onto the names of Amphoe on local programs notwithstanding that everyone knows the Amphoe is local and is in Chiangmai and not possibly any other province and have no hesitation to do as many as 10 of those things in a few minutes of “news”.
