Thai media has reported that the Thai Tobacco Monopoly could soon be making its own marijuana spliffs.

TTM chief Daonoi Suthiniphaphan said that her organization was waiting for permission from the public health ministry regarding growing and potential uses of the drug.

It is yet to be decided if the TTM will do the growing themselves or be involved in cooperatives with other farmers.

If permission is granted then ganja will find its way into cigarettes.

However, those people who hope to get high on TTM cigarettes may be disappointed.

Daonoi said it was unlikely that ganja leaf would be rolled up in cigarettes.

This would contain THC the cannabinoid that makes people high.

More likely is that permission will be granted to use the ganja extract known as CBD oil that is not restricted in any way.

Even so this will be great for the Thai tobacco industry, she said.

Meanwhile Thai Rath reported that a seminar held in Chang Wattana featured a great deal of interest in the growing of ganja and the regulations surrounding production.

They said that full quotas for producing the drug for medical use would soon be taken up.

Not much THC in the leaves. Believe me , I've tried.

“Shake” is great for butane reduction...

First of all, the leafs are not a waste of time... from a real grower.

CBD oil mixed with tobacco leafs is not a waste of time! Could kill the pain of cancer in the lungs. A big selling point to hook manly young Thai males looking to blow smoke. This will be great for the Thai tobacco industry.

Heads so much better.

Leaf is a desperate substitute

Depends on where on the plant the leaf comes from leaves from buds can  be very potent.

Perhaps I could offer you one of my green chocolate chip cookies. One would certainly change your mind.

Made from leaves or bud ?

I'm getting the distinct impression that people are getting the two mixed up.

The Tobacco Monopoly cashes in again.  I wonder whose names are on the board of directors?

Its state owned, the board members also have top positions in other ministries and state owned enterprises, the chairman and vice are also the Inspector General and vice of the Ministry of Finance.  Some other positions include heading the railways, PTT, and Bangkok Bank.

Ah, dear old bizarre Thailand...what can we say? A few months ago it was reported that Thai agencies were trying to prevent foreigners from getting weed patents because it "could lead to monopolies". Now we have the "Thai Tobacco Monopoly" applying for permission to get involved. ????

Is it bizarre?  They are just protecting their own, surely that is a good thing in a lot of instances? Wish the UK would do that a bit more than they do.
