Hi there,

Just about to apply for a marriage certificate for my Thai wife? 2 short questions.

I am gettign the marriage certificate translated today, but does this have to be certified as a true copu by a notary / lawyer?

Also, when she went for the TB test, the lady there indicated that she would have to go to the police station to confirm she does not have any criminal records. She doesn't, but this s the first time that I have heard of this request. I haven't seen any similar comments on this website. Any help if this is required?

Thanks in advance.

You do not need to get the marriage certificate translated for the embassy, unless it is in a language other than English or Thai. It is worth getting it done though because you will probably need it in the UK (for various purposes) and a translation in Thailand is a lot cheaper than in the UK.

The translation agency will certify that the translation is correct. This is perfectly acceptable for the embassy and for any other purpose you may need it in the UK.

She does not need to get a criminal record check to apply for a UK visa, although I believe some other countries do require it.

GU22,

Many thanks for your reply.

Having read the certification that the translation agency put on the translation, I figured this must be sufficient. I was just worried that the certification was by an agency and not a professional / person in authority. Plus, the application is in now, so not much I can do!
