Eight month old baby in ‘walker’ crushed by truck in Samut Prakan

An eight month old baby, who was in a ‘baby walker’, has died after being crushed by a truck in front of the parent’s house in Samut Prakan, just south of Bangkok yesterday.

 

Thairath reports that Phra Samut Jaedee Police were notified of the horrible incident in Soi Suksawat in Phra Samut Jaedee District in Sumut Prakan at 2.30pm yesterday.

 

Police and rescue workers arrived to find the damaged baby walker laying on the road. Nearby they found a sobbing 30 years old woman Wilawan Pitpan.

Not surprising, with the general lack of care/responsibility we see here on a day to day basis.

My MIL looks after her granddaughter, who is not yet 2 yrs old. She will often go off to the market whilst the toddler is sleeping, leaving her unsupervised..

She doesn't seem to think there is anything wrong with that. I guess not, until something happens, then try explaining to your daughter how neglect killed her only child !!

These aren't uneducated people either, which makes it even scarier...

We saw this on C7 news last night with the mother cradling her dead child.  Extremely tragic.

 

I could go on but see this has been succinctly covered in the previous posts.

Unless the mother is blatantly lying this looks like a freak accident that could happen to any mother.

 

I don't know the truth of the matter but unlike you lot I am not about to condemn slag or have a go at some poor woman who just lost her child...........

Just one of about 50 + deaths on Thai roads yesterday. Another 50+ today and another 50+ the day after that. It is the Thai way. The numbers are truly insane and have been for decades.

Next time don’t walk away from your responsibility to talk on the phone.... that’s why god gave you two hands...one hand on the phone and the other in the walker....

 

was she so engaged in the conversation that she forgot her main responsibility 24/7?

 

and to the response who says it can happen anywhere.....yes....anywhere there is stupid people....

 

same same to the the idiots who ride a motorcycle and tell their toddler to hold on tight or holding a baby with one arm.....common practice here....high risk behavior high risk outcome

I agree with you. They never admit what they are doing is wrong. Everybody does that so there is nothing wrong... 14 years old riding on a motorcycle without helmet and driving license. Wrong things are considered right in LOS.

Circumstances like this probably happen a million times a day around the world.  In the nanny states, we have built in safeguards like road setbacks, consumer safety laws that keep defective walkers off the market, and traffic enforcement that forces drivers to be a lot more vigilant in areas where kids may be in the streets. 

 

In the rest of the world, it's down to sheer bad luck that something like this happens in an instant of human distraction. 

 

I challenge any parent to honestly say they never did anything that put their kid into a situation that could have snowballed into a similar tragedy under the wrong circumstances.  Much as I loved them, and as safe as we all turned out, my folks would have been lying if they claimed "never".

The Woman was more interested in her phone than her Child .

Baby car on wheels , on a ramp , she should have made sure that the baby couldnt roll down the ramp  , but no, she was more interested in her phone

I wasn't there, so I don't claim to judge her.  I do live in a beach resort community now in Texas, and it would take both hands to count the number of times I've had to slow down or stop for kids in the road in just the 6 months since I moved in.  And the summer high season hasn't even started yet.

This is the land of smiles...nobody gives a dam.  Just an everyday/night event, one day it will be one of us and it won't matter to the Thais because a wai will fix it or a big fat brown envelope...don't forget your 90 day report in to mama...

So, they were educated abroad? 

 

But in all seriousness, it's a Very sad story and a result of culture more than intelligence, I'd think. Thais just don't seem to see life to be as full of dangers as people from more developed countries do, so their minds don't appear to be wired with the same level of conscientious awareness of their children's whereabouts. That's not a criticism of Thai culture -- just an observation without prejudice.

few years back, I used to rent a small room from some grandma who was "taking care" of her daughters kid, he couldn't be older than 2.5 years old.

I've seen granny drive off with the scooter with the kid running after her while crying several times. he would just walk back to the house, jump on the couch and watch TV by himself.

Are you a parent?

 

If so, I take it your children have never hurt themselves, had an accident, fallen over or banged their heads in their entire lives as are were able to constantly watch them and get in there the split second they might have potentially got into the smallest amount of danger?

 

The OP is a tragic accident.  Think how the mother and family are feeling now.  Would you say your judgmental and flippant comments to her face?

 Should have never won the war and never will. You don't know the woman you weren't there and judging her on this just isn't on.

 

I sat my son on top of the car roof one day when I got an important call and got so caught up in the conversation when it was over I actually got into my car and was about to drive away when I thought Oops!!..........I was lucky I could have seriously injured him or worse.

The point is we all do daft things unintentionally but nothing is lower than slagging a person who could be saint when they have just lost a child.

 

Personally I don't know many people like that and if my friend spat out hate like that I would disown them

First ever trip. Knew nothing. Hooked up with a BG in Phuket. She stayed a week or so when, one morning, she said she had to check on her son <deleted>!

We rode back to her very nice, newish house in Bangtao. Crammed from floor to ceiling, in every room with bags and bags of clothes.

We found the boy rather sick so ran him over to the hospital. He was about 6-7.

He had been getting picked up for school by a young girl on a bike, brought home, for over a week. All I could see that he had to eat were bags of chips. Brought him back to where I was staying at Kata Beach for the rest of the holiday.
