Remember that, unless things have changed, the REP desk is after passport control at DMK, but before at Swampy. I got caught by this once at Swampy. I cleared imm and asked where the REP desk was. Turned out I had to get my exit stamp cancelled, go back in and get my REP, then exit the country again. With all the paperwork involved, this took me ages and I barely made my flight.

 

Also, at Swampy, you don’t go through passport control at all, so you don’t have to get in line. When you get your REP, they will also stamp you out and you’re on your way to your departure gate.

Usually, they do make you pass passport control after getting the reentry permit. They obviously stamped you out because they realised you were strapped for time and in danger of missing your flight.
