I bought a VIOFO A129 duo dashcam. Need to have it installed now and I have the idea to put the rear camera in the front and the (main) front camera in the back of the car (Camry 2019)

Assumed advantages:

1. Much more less obstructed view in the front since the Viofo rear camera is much smaller

2. No possible interference of the VIOFO front camera GPS with the navi GPS of the car in the front then

3. Polarizing filter may be used for video in the back (thus optimizing picture quality at night because of the headlights of following cars)

The resolution of the Viofo rear camera is the same as for the front camera. So it would not matter. Maybe the viewing angle is an issue. Did not check that yet.

The only drawback I see is that the electric wiring has to go twice the lenght of the car then and therefore the 3 wire cable (for parking mode) has to be extended considerably. The connection of front to rear camera would be the same.

I assume that this is peanuts for a professional car tuner to do it invisibly.

Anything I might have forgotten ? Any thoughts ? I suppose the electric potential is not really affected a lot by going some more meters between car battery (resp. fuse box) and the camera in the back of the car (needs to go to the VIOFO front camera).

Have you confirmed there is actually any interference with the GPS?

If you need to verify the cam is actually working, you'll need to stop, get  out of the car, reach into the back seat, or will you  just leave the screen on and hope you can see the red flashing dot in your mirror?

I have an a119v2, assume the screen is the same?

My thoughts are better video recording is more important on the front facing camera, since that is more likely to show you not at fault, or at fault.  (CPL)    If you get rear ended by some car at night, and they flee they'll generally go around you, not back out of sight.  (And still show up on the front cam)

I just use one Viofo 119V2 mounted top of windscreen and a second on the top of rear windscreen with sd cards running in both. Simplifies installation and better quality footage from both.

No. The manual of the car suggests not to install any electronic items near the mirror, where the car GPS and a car camera (this one is for driver assist systems) are installed. It is difficult to test since I did not find a good garage in Pattaya that would install the Dashcam. Have to go to BKK and when its installed it is installed.

I did not think that the operation had to be confirmed. I was assuming that the VIOFO switches on when I start the car and then will record. All the time.

I thought that the picture quality of the rear camera is no different from the front camera of a A129duo. Should be according to reviews on the net. This was actually the basis of my idea.

Well I see, maybe not such a good idea. I can have the front camera installed on the right side of the mirror. It is just ugly and a bit in the way because the lens needs to be outside the "dotted" area you will find around the mirror. I think that is not only the case for my car.

I have considered that as well, but it seems that the tiny Rear Camera has about the same picture quality as the Front Camera. Besides you would still have to connect the Rear Camera to the fuse box of the car.

The viofo cams are pretty reliable but you still need to monitor the camera is recording normally. Cards fail, and any dashcam can have glitches due to the quirks of various cars in start up.
You can't put the cam up and ignore it for months and expect to find the footage you need in an emergency.
If you have the g sensor auto save function set to on, many cams will fill the card up with footage of minor potholes and bumps in the road, and stop recording.
