Self-appointments and nepotism cited in committee

The disclosure of names for the selection committee for the Senate has revealed that many of them likely picked themselves and their relatives.

 

According to the disclosure of names put forward for the committee, formed for the election of senators by the junta National Council for Peace and Order, all are key members in the ruling body and its government.

 

They are Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, Deputy Prime Minister Air Chief Marshal Prajin Juntong, Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak, Deputy Prime Minister General Chatchai Sarikulya, Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam, Deputy Prime Minister General Thanasak Patimaprakorn, former education minister Admiral Narong Pipatanasai, Interior Minister General Anupong Paochinda, Labor Minister Police General Adul Sangsingkeo and former President of National Legislative Assembly Pornpetch Wichitcholchai.

 

While the law prohibits them from picking themselves for a position, five members from the selection committee have become senators. They are Prajin, Chatchai, Thanasak, Narong and Adul. 

 

Pornpeth resigned from the committee but he was picked as a senator and later became the President of the Senate.

 

However, for the members of committee who did not sit in the Senate, their relatives are named as senators. They are Admiral Sitthawat Wongsuwan, brother of Prawit, Air Marshall Chalermchai Krea-ngam, brother of Wissanu and Som Jatusripitak, brother of Somkid.

No need to come up with it I am sure you remember the saga's of nepotism with other governments. Nepotism has always ruled Thailand and its disgusting. I wonder if we will ever see a real change. I doubt it.

Other governments don't have a fully appointed senators and with reserved places for military generals. Take for example the 1997 constitution, all senators are elected. Even the 2007 constitution has 50% elected senators while the other 50% were selected by a National and Provincial Selection Committee and the EC involved in the appointment. The junta ripped the 2007 constitution and installed the highly controversial amendment for full appointment and the appointment committee made up of NCPO inner circle. This is totally corruption beyond all scope.

Yea Eric, I know but if you don't remember the countless instances of nepotism in previous governments you must have been blind.

 

It was not good back then, and it is not good now, worse maybe even as you said they have more power. But its stupid to think an other government would do it any different.

 

Just one example (and I could write page after page) was all those committees with family members on them getting a salary (was discussed a lot on this web board)

 

The junta are crooks and nepotism rules but the previous government had massive nepotism problems too. If you deny that then i doubt you have been living in Thailand.

Massive nepotism! So this mother of all nepotism where a Prime Minister was grossly selected was to your eyes equal to past nepotism. You really have a poor sense of moral judgement.

Eric, I am not going to write down all instances when your beloved PTP was engaging in nepotism. That would derail the whole topic. Like i said if you did not see it you were blind.

The budget to choose was 1,300 million baht. Very expensive.

The other four now have the other government job.

Others have move away from the but but rebuttal but not you. Moreover I don’t think you fully understand the severity of a crony upper house that resulted in the crook appointment of the Prime Minister. Nepotism is bad but this is toxic.

No, his moral compass is fine and balanced.

 

Whereas some seem to insist on trying to gloss over the corruption and nepotism that were hallmarks of the various Shin regimes. 

 

Putting your puppet sister in place to do your bidding and not much else runs this a pretty close race.

Eric, stop trying to ignore the Shin corruption and nepotism and pretend it never happened. Do us all a favor and recognize it did, was massive and a growing cancer in Thailand. 

 

Criticizing the Junta whilst trying to sanitize previous corrupt civilian regimes isn't moving on. It's narrowing the mind.
